We played Bonnie & Clyde last night with 3 players and had a great time. However, the timing of moving the car with respect to multiple melds and layoffs and whether the hidden cards at multiple locations could be captured were a matter of controversy. Let me give an example to explain my question better.
Say the car is at Location 5 at the beginning of my turn. I have a meld of Location 5 cards in hand and a layoff of the Location 6 in hand.
Can I play the meld of Location 5 cards, take the card hidden at Location 5, move the car to Location 6, play the Location 6 layoff and take the card hidden at Location 6 all in one turn? Is the Location 6 layoff card played vertical (4 points/card) also?
Or do I have to play the meld of Location 5 and the layoff of Location 6 at once, collect the Location 5 hidden card and then move the car twice (one forward and then once forward or backward)? I realize I could only play the Location 5 meld, take the hidden card there, move the car forward and keep the Location 6 layoff for my next turn, but there is a risk of somebody else getting a layoff there and taking the card first.
Thanks in advance for the clarification.

I think you can move each time you play a meld and/or a layoff.

David,
Yes, I understand the car moves for each meld and layoff, but can you get multiple hidden cards and place multiple different melds/layoffs in the vertical position on the same turn by playing one, moving the car and then playing another meld/layoff?
Thanks,
Bruce

This is the way I play. I assume it's legal because the rules don't say anything against it.

I agree, I don't see any other way of reading this. If you were limited to one per turn, they'd say it.
I think this is also why they're very careful to point out you can layoff two of the same card at the same time and count it as one layoff, or two layoffs if you wish. Thus, you can move the car once vs twice, setting up your next move.

Thank you, everybody for your help. I think the game will allow more strategic options the way you are recommending it be played, so I'm glad that is the correct way to play.
I'm looking forward to trying it out the right way now!

My wife and I get that car moving all over the place, trying to get the biggest score possible. Do you lay that 4 or 5 of a kind all at once for a big score because the car is there? Or do you hold back and just meld the minimum 3, so you have the other cards to get you elsewhere?
Lots of interesting choices. We've only played 2 player so far. I'm anxious to try it with 3 and 4.

If you play a meld it MUST move up the board (unless on 10 then it won't move). If you play a layoff it MUST move up or down.
An example.
your hand is 1 2 3 44 555 66
Car is on 3
On table already is a meld of 4's
You play one 4. The card that was on 4 spot has already been taken on the earlier meld play (this is not compulsory). As the car was not present the card is played vertically and will only score 2 points.
Having played a layoff you can move the car up or down. You decide to go up.
your hand is 1 2 3 4 555 66
Car is on 4
On table already is a meld of 4's and a 4 layoff.
You now play your last 4 sideways as the car is present and it scores double. Again you choose to move the car up.
your hand is 1 2 3 555 66
Car is on 5
On table already is a meld of 4's and two 4 layoffs.
You play your meld of 5's. As the car is present you lay them sideways. You look at the card on spot 5. It's a 6 so you take it and add it to your hand. The car MUST then move up as you played a meld.
your hand is 1 2 3 666
Car is on 6
On table already is a meld of 4's, 5's and two 4 layoffs
You play your newly formed meld of 6's. As the car is present you lay them sideways. The card on the 6 spot is Clyde so you take him and place him immediately in front of you for 10 points.
your hand is 1 2 3
Car is on 6
You've run out of options so you discard.
REMEMBER: YOU CAN ONLY EVER TAKE BONNIE OR CLYDE IF THE CAR IS PRESENT. Think of it as they are in the car and can never be caught elsewhere. The other trap for new players is that the Ted Hinton card CANNOT be used to capture our intrepid felons.
