Just wondering if anyone can comment on the use of this as an expansion of the original game. How did you blend the two together? Are the animals similar enough in size to use without difficulty?

Thanks!

We don't play the original without two sets of Das Duell as expansion. The size is perfect, and it's a lot harder to play with more animals.

If you like the original, get one Das Duell per two players.

Yep that was 12 Power Grid maps back to back over two days. Worth doing, but possibly not in such a concentrated burst.

Having played this by itself we will be getting a second set and creating Tier auf Tier: The Deluxe edition by merging them both with our original Animal Upon Animal

Even with just one set of Das Duell you could quite easily expand Tier auf Tier. Simply put the 8 animals from Das Duell in the middle of the table and players choose and take a piece after their turn until all the pieces run out. To be specific use the following rules when you have just one set of Das Duell to expand Tier auf Tier with:

- In a 2p game each player starts with 2 sets of 7 animals from Tier auf Tier original. All 8 Das Duell pieces are placed in the centre. After each player's first four turns they take a Das Duell piece from the centre.
- EDIT: I suppose a better idea for a 2p game would be for each player to start with 2 sets of 7 animals from TaT and 1 set of 4 animals from Das Duell. No pieces would be placed in the centre.
- In a 3p game, each player starts with 1 set of 7 animals from TaT. The remaining set of 7 TaT animals and all 8 DD animals are placed in the centre. After each player's first five turns they choose and take a piece from the centre (either a TaT or DD piece, depending what is available).
- In a 4p game, each player starts with 1 set of 7 animals from TaT. All 8 DD pieces are placed in the centre. After each player's first and second turns they take a DD piece from the centre.
- On a player's turn, the extra piece is taken regardless of whether the stack falls or not.
- Of course, animals that fall off the stack during the game that are discarded from the game, should not be mixed with these extra animals in the centre.

I haven't actually done this as I haven't got my mits on Das Duell yet, but I imagine these rules would work very well for experienced players looking for a more challenging game. I find that in the original Tier auf Tier that sometimes the game is won without the stack falling over even once with experienced players. That's not necessarily a bad thing - I think it should happen sometimes - but when it does happen, it makes the game feel really short and the game's outcome seems based on the luck of the die and turn order. Plus, I think it's more fun when the stack falls. With 36 pieces in the game instead of 28 I think it a lot less likely for the game to end without the stack falling at least once.

I personally plan to get 2 sets of Das Duell to expand Tier auf Tier. With two sets of Das Duell, you could easily play Das Duell as intended (ie, not combined with Tier auf Tier) with three or four players for a longer game. Still in real time and still first player to win 3 rounds wins the game. I haven't played Das Duell yet and have no idea if this would be worth doing. Is Das Duell actually any good on its own?

I think of the 4 new animals, the duck is alot harder to place than the others. I think it's the most interesting in terms of making the stack less stable.

If you are playing with 3-4 players and 1 copy of das duel, I'd leave out the duck to make things more even.

I have two copies of das duel, so everyone get a duck.

Just put these in the middle and when you chose to have someone to play a piece you can choose a middle piece.
