I just picked up a copy of this game...I noticed that their example completed 10 day journey ended with a boat trip between Greece and Turkey

However, the map shows those two nations touching. So, shouldn't the trip have been completed on foot instead of using a ship?

No.

The best example I can think of is in the USA version you can use a car to get to an adjacent state as long as both the starting and destination states share a border with a third state. In other words, you can drive from Tennessee to North Carolina because they both border Virginia. (You specifically cannot use a car to get from Maine to New Hampshire since there is no third state which borders both.

Since Greece and Turkey both border the Mediterranean Sea, you could use a ship for that sea to move between them.
