I tried playing Space Alert last night and discovered through some difficulty that the "Tutorial" CD didn't have the introductory Mission on Track 1. Instead, the "Mission" CD had it..

I think these two CDs are mislabeled?

Yes they are mislabeled. I had the same problem. It was a little wierd to start the first test run with an internal threat. Lol

I had my cadets enthralled in our first try. Then when we played the mission things went wrong. internal threats, T+7 events when there aren't any in the test flight.....

I eventually discovered CD was mislabeled, ruin the atmosphere. my friends left after the failed trial.

too bad.

I still look forward to playing.

Although the CDs are labeled Tutorial and Mission... what I thought I received was two mission CDs that looked like they were run through the printer twice... leaving the impression of the first print underneath.

Edit: Doh!

My bad. Know what happens when you get clumsy and drop both discs while comparing them on the computer? You end up ripping the same one twice and thinking they packed the wrong stuff inside.

All is fine.

The fact they actually start with the same announcement added to my confusion.

I wish I had read this thread before I played the game! We played the first tutorial mission twice because I thought we missed something the first time around (since the threats didn't match up with the mission card or the explanation in the hand book.)

I finally put the CD into the computer and saw the tracks were 10 minutes long instead of seven minutes, which led me to the check the second CD and realize they were switched.

We had the same experience. Using the mission CD for the first tutorial mission is quite confusing!

We figured out the error by matching the soundtrack to the mission cards.

When I first tried this we set up for the tutorial mission, put in the tutorial cd, and got very confused.

While I expected the first run through to be pretty bad, I was hoping that we'd learn enough from it (one of us had played before) to do better a second time. Unfortunately, the cd switch killed it.

I tried again - with a different group of friends - and we walked through a few turns of a "read off the card" mission. We then put in the missions CD and got set for a full mission - only to barely survive the tutorial. We set up again, switched cds, and had a lot of laughs playing it again.

After I play a few more times, I will try to reintroduce it to the other group.

Hahaha! I just played this for the first time last night. I was teaching it to four other newbies. Then we put in the CD and we instantly get internal threats and stuff at T+6. We just tried to roll with the punches, but it was super-confusing. Glad to have that straightened out for next time.
