Hi guys!
My name is Michael and I am working with Uwe on this Battlepack. I`ll post here some info about it`s development, in mini-blog form. I`ll try to make this writing as regular as possible, but time isn`t flexible, and some pauses will happen.
At first - I want to apologise you for my English - I`m not using it in my every-day work, so probably I`ll make some mistakes. Sorry for that!
I`ll try to answer to all your questions, so don`t hesitate to ask.
First things should go first, so...
I. NAME OF THE GAME.
Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Józef Beck, had a famous speech in Polish Parliment (Sejm) on 5th of May 1939, in answer to Hitler`s ultimatum from 28th of April.
He said:
"Peace is a precious and a desirable thing. Our generation, bloodied in wars, certainly deserves peace. But peace, like almost all things of this world, has its price, a high but a measurable one. We in Poland do not know the concept of peace at any price. There is only one thing in the lives of men, nations and countries that is without price. That thing is honour."
I love this speech and I wanted to use it battlepack`s name creation. So, I though about 'Price of Honour', and Uwe gladly accepted it.
Short description of Battlepack`s interior you can find in the description box of this site. We should get here: - cardboard box, - 2 maps, - more than 100 counters with Polish, German and Soviet units from 1939, - rules and scenario book with more than 10 scenarios and rules describing cavalry.
Some basic informations about 1939 German, Soviet and Slovak invasion of Poland you can find at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_Poland_(1939)

We were told earlier by Uwe this game would need a copy of Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! Russia 1941-1942, is that still the plan?
EDIT: Incidentally, the main BGG description for this states hundreds of counters - which is a very different thing than more than 100...

From what I've read from Michal's design journals, you'll need AtB OR SoS to play this battlepack. Having both main games increases the number of playable scenarios to 12. Having only 1 main game gives you 8 scenarios.

Hi,
from what I know, the answer is "yes" - a copy of "Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! - Russia 1941-1942" will be needed.
And, there will be something like 140 of counters - not all of these are units.

Sorry for my mistake - amount of counters (about 140) include all support markers (damage hits etc)

Ah, more realistic... shame though, if we need the base game anyway, why are we paying for more of the same counters? The cost could be reduced by requiring markers & stuff to be used from the base game.

You need base game(s) for the maps. I think you'll be able to play 4 scenarios using the sole content on the battlepack.

Hmm... sensible then, but still, lower price...

I'm not sure that it'll sell on a basis of 4 scenarios, plus pay a fairly hefty sum to play the other 6, and then get a lot of duplicate counters...

Re:
I believe, there will be no duplicate counters - all units included in expansion should be "new" for the game (whole polsich army and older versions of german and soviet vehicles and weapons - in september 39' Red Army and Wehrmaht weren't such a killing machines yet).

Sounds very cool, I won't buy it just because of personal reasons (my "Awaken the Bear" doesn't see enough play as it is).

Just to make things clear:
There won't any counters but unit counters. All other counters will be used from one of the base modules.
You only need one of Awakening the Bear or Storms of Steel. There is a mixture of firefights that require only expansion boards, firefights that require ATB boards, and firefights that require SoS boards (to the best of my knowledge, there are no firefights that require all 3 - just expansion plus one base module.)
So yes, there will be no duplicates, and if you only have one base module, all you will miss out on is a few of the firefights, that is all.

The game will include only fighting units, no support units. The price will be a direct multiple of its cost, with the same formula used for the other games. I expect it to be around $40. It may weigh a little more, since cavalry weighs more than just plain infantry.

Yes, a lot of units, and some Polish control markers. All other markers would come from AoB or SoS.
Beside Polish units (~60) battlepack would give players a large variety of early war Soviet (~40) and German (~40) units.

Horses also eat more than soldiers, will you have to pack a lot of fodder in the box?

That is a great point David. We may use hay instead of cardboard spacers. Even though I have heard that cardboard cavalry does enjoy cardboard chits.

That's the problem with cardboard horses... you end up with cardboard chit all over the place!

Just to get serious again: Will we see a firefight upon the Westerplatte? As you surely know, the Polish soldiers have done their job very well, defending their Westerplatte strong positions against the overwhelming German pressure from land, sea and air. According to the small size of the theatre it may be possible to recreate it with just two map boards?
(but ok, that means that there are two expensive map boards just for one special firefight... or do you see any chances for having the Westerplatte fight in it?)

Another one...may we perhaps see a firefight about the famous Charge at Krojanty? Attacking with Polish cavalry the German infantry until the German armoured Spähwagen comes out of the woods surprisingly. (In the following the myth occurs that the brave / or stupid Polish cavalry tried to attacked German tanks just with their lancers...)

Kihrin - there will be no Westerplatte scenario - as you wrote, it would need 2 maps created directly for it.
Please look at this image: http://wpk.p.lodz.pl/~bolas/main/bitwy/wester/plan.gif You can see here Polish bunkers (black boxes) with their fields of fire (black lines with arrows), position of our single 75mm gun and both 37mm AT guns, Polish positions (black) and German positions (white). It would need at last 1200m long area (30 hexes - 2 maps). Maybe some CoH fans would prepare such map and some scenarios?
We could take just a part of it to make a 'bunker storming' firefight. Maybe in the future - as downloadable scenario.
Krojanty - yes, they are on 'alpha' version of scenario list.

Krojanty - Well, I like to hear that!!!
Westerplatte - Thank you for the link, it's a good source for working on such a westerplatte scenario. May it be that Uwe will provide a "firefight editor" via the academy games website? As you know it from some computer games, I could imagine an editor with woods, hills, etc. and with the possibility to print out a newly created map on two sheets DIN A4 or letter size (or some other usual printing format) so one can glue it on cardboard to have a good mapboard. Perhaps the gamers all over the world can create and share a lot of new and interesting firefights then with the possibility of giving also the CoH designer team some new ideas for creating the official ones?
(Of course such an map editor will not provide the graphical quality of the original boards, but it will be very helpful with creating own maps and share interesting ideas)

Kai,
I would have no problem supplying such an editor, but it is beyond my programming ability and beyond my "budget" to have it custome programmed. Uwe

The budget problem... everytime and everywhere the same. Who knows, eventually one CoH fan with programming knowledge will give a start to it...
