My family had a copy of Careers when I was nine years old back in 1979. I don't remember too much about it so I'm not sure what edition it was.
Years later, I was walking though a toy store and stumbled upon Careers again and picked it up. It's manufactured by Tiger Electronics under the "Tiger Games" brand, and is copyright 1992 on the bottom of the box.
I've played it a few times and it seems like the rules are a little confusing and vague in spots, at least compared to what I remember as a child. I'm thinking that when they were trying to update the game for this edition, something got lost in the translation. I'd like to locate a copy of the one that I had as a kid, and see if the rules make more sense. How faithful to the original is the recent Winning Moves edition?
If anyone is interested, I can try to make a new entry in the game database for this version and get some pictures up.

My version is 1960 ! I collect vintage games and Waddington games are my favourites. Thank goodness I managed to collect all their games.
I would certaintly like to compare your edition mine and see if they have changed anything expect the basic concept.

After doing a little more searching, I'm fairly certain that the version I had as a child was the 1976 edition.

1976 is just like the representative image, only in gold.

You can go to hasbro.com and click their "Customer Service" tab at the top, then go to "Instructions" and you can download a pdf of your versions instructions to read. If you're interested in a copy of that edition. I can send you one cheap. The Winning Moves edition out there right now is a near reproduction of the 1955 edition. From edition to edition, they changed some of the career paths.
Good luck seeking this out. This is a classic game I'd still enjoy playing with family, unlike so many others I'd rather leave in the past.

I just got (and have played a few times) the Tiger 1992 edition and it, too, is identical in terms of game play and rules and icons to the previous two editions. The differences are that Space is called Computer Science (with significant changes in flavor text), Show Biz/The Arts is Entertainment, and maybe there was one other track name change? Also, lots of the offensive text (secretary in Big Business, sex references in Sports) has been changed for the better (usually). But in terms of game play, it is identical to the other two editions. And the rules are probably verbatim copies, with no mention of Parker Brothers.

I thought we had established that the 1979 edition had only six tracks instead of eight.
