Maybe he's equal opportunity... he paints republican politicos with pancakes on their head as well as scandalous democrats like Blago.

Fascinating.

Quote:
While online Christian sites hailed some of his work, and conservative blogs hosted his strips, not a single publication was willing to pay money for it. And when he drew a strip with one of his characters slamming a Bible over the top of W's head, many conservatives disowned him. "I also moved away from evangelical Christianity to Catholicism," he says. "I realized Jesus always encouraged us to be honest. I wasn't being honest with my evangelism. It also impacted my wife, so I kinda moved away from it for her as well."

At the end of 2007, Lacey suspended work on Faithmouse. He took up freelance work painting serious portraits of the Pope and other religious iconography. Six months later, he painted Obama riding a unicorn.

[Liberal cartoonist Ken] Avidor's attack on Lacey commenced in full on the DemocraticUnderground online forum. That's where Avidor began to post Lacey's past work, baiting him into a fight: "Does the Family Research Council approve of your nude paintings and your gay pancake porn?" wrote Avidor. "Nothing wrong with smut, Lacey.... It's the hypocrisy."

Lacey was easily drawn into the fray. "Really, if anyone cares, I became disillusioned and stopped drawing Faithmouse as a pro-conservative, evangelical cartoon years ago," he posted in reply. "Everything he's posted here for people to get ANGRY AT is a few years old. My fall from grace is well recorded in my fan forums, which are all linked on my blog. Conservatives pretty much hate me now."

Avidor swung back: "Please describe your 'fall from grace.' Answer these questions, Lacey: Are you still opposed to a woman's right to choose? Are you still a theocrat? Are you still a right-wing Republican? Are you still opposed to same-sex marriage? Do you still admire George Bush, Rush Limbaugh, Alan Keyes? Do you still support the M.O.B.'s right-wing crap? Do you still hate the ACLU that protects your right to create and sell your explicit sexual artwork (porn)? Do you think you should make money exploiting the political movements you stridently opposed? That's the tune, so.... Dance, you right-wing theocratic monkey...DANCE!!!"

Lacey refused to dance. He merely repeated his stance and offered a calm retort that he was disillusioned and no longer partisan. He also included a link to a nude self-portrait as cheeky proof.

But Avidor continued to fire back posts with evidence of Lacey's past work. He challenged Lacey to answer for paintings Avidor felt were anti-ACLU, and anti-gay porn.

"I'm not a monkey for any one side, like you continue to be," Lacey responded. "You imagine my cartoon matched right-wing ideology completely, but it never did. I guess you missed my cartoon of Faithmouse beating George Bush over the head with a Bible, or of Andrea Merkel going at George with a strap-on, or of Taint being John Hagee's whore. In my humble opinion, this misunderstanding on your part is a result of your being a militant, one-note dumbshit."

With that, Lacey bowed out of the fight. But Avidor kept the punches coming, continuing to call Lacey a right-wing, theocratic, Republican bigot. Others joined in and Avidor had Lacey banned from the website; it's a place for "progressives only."

Yet the unicorn has a much better grasp of economics, and it's a fictional animal with horn jammed through its brain.

President Reagan and the mostly Democrat-controlled Congress spent money almost 3 times faster than President Clinton and the mostly Republican-controlled Congress, but now President Obama and the Democrat-dominated Congress are spending money about 3 1/2 times faster than even President Reagan and the mostly Democrat-controlled Congress.

Even an army of unicorns inflating monetary policy cannot sustain that.

I'm not sure how Germany got into this...

You are correct that without an increase in revenue current economic police is unicorn crap.
What I was pointing out was that the Reagan defense spending {keeping the Europe “safe” from the financially bankrupt USSR (laugh)} was a smaller but equally irresponsible waste of money. Germany’s only real threat at that time was…….NOBODY so I guess we kept them safe from themselves.

You’re spending figures are skewed by the TARP money. That will hopefully break even in the long run (additional revenue in the future). Like or hate the president, his budget figures have been more (no not completely) honest than any of the last four presidents. Which makes it that much scarier.

This thread was supposed to be about the appreciation of fine art...... not monitary politicy.

With that in mind I find the humor in the art funny but the style looks more like "cheap motel" than DaVinci.

Explanation?
rcbevco wrote:

I'm sorry. I don't get your point. I don't think the United States forced Germany to build all those Leopard tanks. Are you saying that one group of people would never be willing to harm its own people? America lost just about as many men during the America Civil War as all of its other wars combined. The British Isles suffered horrific casualties during the English Civil War with Ireland losing over 40% of its population!

The Vietnam War was arguably a civil war. The Korean War and Chinese Civil War are arguably more 20th century civil wars that have never really been settled.

The Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia with arguably more combat troops than America ever had combat troops in Vietnam at any one time. Are you saying that it was completely unthinkable that the Warsaw Pact would have wished to have claimed West Berlin as a territorial acquisition?

I think most America politicians supported the NATO alliance during the Cold War.

Or are you saying that the German people evolved to a higher level of consciousness after World War II? Hmm, I think they're DNA is essentially the same as everyone else's.
...

I don't know what to say about the spending. They're spending an enormous amount. A lot of it probably has to do with aging baby boomers, but that can’t explain all of it.

I did not make one mistake. President Obama and the Democrats in Congress whose budget is entitled "A New Era of Fiscal Responsibility" aren't spending 3 1/2 times more than President Reagan and his Democrats. It's the debt that is increasing 3 1/2 times faster ... which is even worse.

By the 1980's the USSR was a joke the camel waiting for the proverbial straw to break it's back.

In the 80's the US spent metric shit loads of borrowed money on the military. (The single biggest increase in federal spending during the period.) For all of this we got:
1. A false sense of security.
2. Invasions of global threats like Grenada.
3. The notion that unsustainable debit was an "expectable alternative" to higher taxes.
4. One straw.

Most scholars agree that during this period USSR was not a viable conventional threat to Europe. (Hell I was a stupid HS student and knew that.) So all of that spending was for NOTHING. My choice of Germany could have instead been keeping the Grenada safe from the Grenadians or better put keeping nobody safe from the boogy-man. (evil empire)

Now what does this have to do with unicorn crap? I am very concerned about the deficit and how it has been run up by decades of military overspending, endless bail outs, etc… over the last 30 years.

I felt that people needed to know that it is not just liberals that let unicorn out of the barn and now expect everyone to walk behind it with shovels.

Never thought I'd be defending US military spending - but - Even if the power elite recognised the weakness of the USSR then the maxim "Desperate people do desperate things" could have justified the spending in their eyes.

Putting on my tin foil hat.

I think that the Reagan administration perpetrated a "white lie" about the Soviet threat. They most likey knew the precarious position of the poliburo and used an arms race to hasten it's demise. I have no doubts that if the US had not borrowed and spent all that money the USSR would have collapsed with in a decade anyway. The defeat of the USSR was a foregone conclusion, Reagan recieved a lot of (what I consider) exagerated credit. He was at best the final 'straw'.
