I bought all the expansions because I really enjoyed base game of gloom.

Now here are some thoughts about each add-on.
Unwelcome guests: Guests seem nice idea! also effects that work even if under the charracter seem like a nice idea..Can character have many of these effects affecting gameplay at one single time?

Unhappy homes: I am really dissapointed with this one: (remember this is only the basic new consepts i got from reading the rules There might still be good new cards in general!)

I wanted the families to have different gameplay mechanics! Whats the use of having extra house if its blank and same as everybody elses house!? Its basically just another character which you can add pathos points put you dont need to kill it to get those points (it does not affect game lenght)...BOORING!!

If you are thinking of buying this add-on save your money! and get the free variant houses from atlas games which gives you different playing mechanics!I dont think those houses are balanced but who cares its not really a balanced game anyway and I think the variant houses will mayby make the game quicker?

Unexpected expeditions: Another hit and miss!! well ok mayby not that totally expeditions seem like interesting idea (tough now you have to manage your cards much more carefully if you like that might be fine) but 1/4 of the expeditions is total bullshit! it allows players to add modifiers to dead characters...I really REALLY liked how if you could get "perfect" -25-25-25 character with added bonus points from untimely death your opponents really needed wake him up from the dead (hard) or just remove him from the game (even harder) your points were safe with the dead....but now I think if you can add them later on...it takes A LOT of strategy out of the game...

You should not (in my mind have not tried but would suspect I will update this if I need later on if I were wrong but I dont think i am) go for good kills for maximum points...that is because a) your opponent can easily screw it all up if he gets to play + modifiers on your dead characters. b) you can just add the real big points yourself after the dead and even in some cases not suffer any penalties....good -points modifier..your hand is reduced to 1? Heh so what...it won't affect you from beyond the grave?!

So in my mind that one expedition is REALLY REALLY bad for the game.

But anyways guests seem like fun...
residenced BIG disapointment but mayby fun if mysteries are intersting also they dont really take anything away from the base game so I cant hate them!...but expeditions...well we will have to see about that. I will add my thoughts after some games!

Tell me what you think?

Gloom: Unhappy Homes is my favorite expansion!
I like the way the MYSTERY cards changes the game.

I really enjoy the Mystery cards, which can only be played on the residences, and can be discarded for free on your turn if you don't like the one you have in hand. The residences themselves are almost like an inanimate mascot for the family, and add charisma and cohesion where it might not otherwise be obvious. Unhappy Homes also adds a lot of new special effects!

I love this expansion
