Yes it is time for yet another one time played reviews, this time it is not something that hurts it. Because this is very much implements a game I have played many times. Indeed it might be said to be a reworking of it.

Components:

This is a quick card game, the cards have a nice 30s gangster look to them so there is nothing to complain on there. I do have issue with one part of the game, the cardboard tiles used to render different amount of money feels to be of an extremely low quality. This is also the amount of material in the game, so not much is needed to say.

Game play:

Have you played Ra? Yes, okey you know the game now. If you have not this game is basically a set collection card-game in three rounds (RA draws tiles from an bag instead) , there is some cards that is lost between rounds and some that you keep. Most of the collectible cards are not scored until the last round while the one you save usually give you points or at least makes sure you do not receive minus points for not achieving any or the lowest amount. So far this sounds like quite many games, but here comes the twist, while you draw cards all the time they are placed on a row if they not are an policeman, then they are auctioned and you exchange one of your money tiles for one that is on the table, this one will be used in the next round. This makes for a multitude of different strategic possibilities. You might also call an auction instead of drawing a card.

Differences between this and Ra?

Yes there is a few differences, the one that is clearest except that the components is much nicer in Ra! is that there is no disaster tiles. I do not feel this effects game play much except perhaps that you might want to auction off the tiles in Ra! faster than the cards in Razzia as the risk for losing on waiting is bigger in Ra!

Should I get this or Ra?

This is the most important thing in this review I should say, in fact the only important thing (The other part of this review is just a short introduction to what Razzia is for those who have not played either this or Ra!). The differences between the game is as noted mostly in quality of components, the representation of gold in Ra! is good looking tree blocks, there is markers for points available instead of having to write it down.

Whats your favourite type of randomising? This is the big difference, do you prefer to shuffle cards to make an even and good randomisation of cards or do you think that tiles in a bag will have a better spread. Because that the cards/tiles is good randomised is necessary for the game to really work. If you prefer the cards then you should get Razzia!

Indeed this and the portability of a card game is the only reason to get Razzia! instead of Ra! because the difference is so small it basically is the same play (and the lack of disasters do not add anything to the game, indeed it reduces it)

I'm one of the few that prefers Razzia to Ra. I prefer to shuffle cards rather than tiles and I like the theme better. I agree that the disaster tiles really don't enhance the game that much.
