On a more serious note lets make a head start on next week, are we all good for wed? With regards to the game should we play;

Chaos in the old world
Ora & Labora
Power Struggle (the company game)
That zombie game (forgot the name, the one we where going to play after 1st spark)

Other suggestions?

ps Gary out of interest what new games do you have coming in on the horizon?

Just waiting for Rex(twilight imperium world game), nothing else new recently. BTW, we could try dominant species, mage knight or Urban sprawl some day.

Ahoyhoy. I was recently invited to beta test the upcoming Eclipse expansion (OMG it looks incredible and is jam packed with loads of exciting new goodies). I would like to test it with as many different people as possible. If there is interest I will endeavour to be at Booty Bay on the 8th of March. Cheers.

That sounds really cool Jenny! As for Mage Knight, im interested but the play time really puts me off for a week night (4-5 hours).

I'm definitely interested in this. And this means we don't have to think of what to play that week, yay.

Now for this week. You'r right Mage Knight might be too long. Let's do Dominant Species then. Although the prehistoric theme might bring up suppressed memories of First Spark and traumatize me further cry

Dominate Species seems really interesting, lets do that! I can do either Wed or Thursday, so what ever day the majority can do is best. It seems to be a longish game so lets please try to be on time and all have read the rules. Whoes in?

I would prefer something else as I have DS at home. But if the majority wants it, it is ok for me to skip it this time...

Or... let's go for Mage Knight!

I'm currently locked in for DS. If we are changing to MK then we need to decide today. We said MK might take too long for a weekday but from what I've read DS is not a short game either. For either game we would need to be quite familiar with the rules since we won't have time to 'learn as we go'. Anyway, let me know.

Well my preference is DS and it seems most people want to play that. We could always do Mage Knight on a weekend, to accommodate the play time. As for which day this week it seems we can all make thursday?

Thursday is ok this week. Agree with Gus' point, the changing of game systems especially when complex with minimal timeframes close to inception of playing them is not practical as it requires more planning for people to read the rules and prepare adequately as they may have other commitments on.

I should be able to do DS on Thursday. I'll read the rules beforehand. Been dying to try it for a long time.

Am in for Eclipse expansion next Thursday 8 March.

Also in for Axis & Allies on Sunday 11th March. Who else is in so far - Daniel, Gary, Gus any others as we can have 5 or 6 players (though the Italy position will be a minor power). Any rules link to the Anniversary Edition?

I'm surprised no one has leaked info about the Eclipse expansion. I've been dying to publicly talk about it but it's not allowed. I'm taking it for a whirl tonight. I will pm Duke and Loyd tomorrow with some tidbits. But you'll see it all soon enough!

I spent $36 printing off the files and components at Officeworks if that gives you an indication of the size of this expansion.

I should be there around 7/7.30. With less than 6 players (Loyd, Duke, my bf and I) we'll be able to playtest one of the new additions that only affects 5- player games.

After years of lurking on bgg... finally registered an account just to reply to this thread.

Polite asian dude seeking home in Sydney to play deeper/complex boardgames... Okay maybe not so polite but I'm sure I got the asian down pat.

Smittenkitten, if you still have openings for 8th March testing Eclipse I am bloody gungho for that...

Same with those talking about Mage Knight. Hell, I'm eager beaver for any opponents that can handle things heavier than Catan like my own group.

And as a plus, I run on caffeine so late nights any night of the week is fine by me.

Had a great time with Dominant Species last night! Hope you guys don't mind if I post the pic:

Pictured: Gus, Bastien, Lloyd
Not pictured: Duke Leto, Daniel

Our 5p game took 4 hours to play after rules explanation. Now that we know the game, we could maybe do 3.5 hours, but not much shorter. But the length is the only drawback I had. I rate it a 9 out of 10. I love the mix of Euro game with heavy PvP action. But it is not for the faint of heart. It is a brutal game, and you will get picked on. If you don't like direct confrontation, stick with Agricola or Race for the Galaxy.

Lloyd's Insects buzzed away with first place (I forgot the scores, but he won by at least 15-20 points). We could not overcome his bugs that had adapted to living on the Tundra, and he had control of the Survival card the whole second half of the game. Gus's Amphibians were in second, having used his starting 3 water elements to his advantage throughout the game. Bastien's Birds and my Mammals tied for third, a good 15-20 points behind second. Duke Leto's Reptiles slithered into last place, and we heard a bit of cry from his end of the table after getting not a few glaciers dropped on his snakes. But who said survival of the fittest was going to be pretty? In his defense, I think the Reptiles do have the weakest special ability. I think he only used it once.

All in all, great game. I definitely want to add it to my collection, especially if a Deluxe Edition is released.
