Each year my work does a gingerbread house building contest between the departments. It took a little convincing but I got my team to build a Zombie themed house. Some of the girls were a little turned off at first, but once they saw how awesome this was looking, they started to contribute. The judging is on Monday and I think the odds are in our favor. Thanks, Flying Frog, for making such kick-ass sculpts. We couldn't have done it without you.

We started with this:

And turned it into this:

I'll let you know how the judging goes.

As a side note, apart from the obvious figures and a few toothpicks and hotglue, this sucker is completely edible. Just pour on some milk and you've got yourself a delicious treat.

May EVERY Christmas be filled with Zombie goodness!

EDIT: We won! See my post below.

Twas the night before Christmas, with lots of snow
not a human was stirring, not even father Joe
The revolvers were hung, by the camp with care
In hopes that no zombies, would ever come near

Our group was nestled all snug in our beds
While visions of supplies danced in our heads
And Jenny in her straw hat, and I with my bat
Had just settled down for a brief winters nap

When out on the yard, there arose such a shamble
I sprang from my cot, to see what what was in the bramble
Away from the fire, I carefully shook
Thankful that at my side, was Sam the big old cook

The evil that crawled on the new fallen snow
Gave the luster of death to objects below
When to what to my wondering eyes should be seen
But our small town law man, and the prom queen

With a hand that was steady and awfully quick
I shot a dozen zombies, till the sight made me sick
But more rapid than rats, these creatures they came
So I yelled and shouted each by name...

Now Slasher, Prancer, ripper, and decaying vixon
On, vomit, on putrid, on zombie with one leg missin'
To the top of the porch, to the top of our walls
Now burn them, burn them, Burn them all

With the dead all in piles, and only the drifter bitten
I put away my kerosine, and put on my only mitten
For over the hill, the thousands did crawl
I knew there was not much time, left for us all

And that's when Sally awoke, and saw the horrifying scene
She ran around the camp, like a crazed fiend
She threw down her chaninsaw, towards the awful sight
This is not Christmas at all, its our last night!

Hey, hey! We won. There were 17 houses submitted and we won first place by only 30 votes. There were 510 votes that were made, so it was closer than I thought it would be. It turns out that my wife's gingerbread house (yes, my wife works with me) won second place. And I have to admit, her's was pretty good. I catered to the Zombie fans and she catered to the Sesame Street fans. I guess both sides can be pretty fanatical with their votes.

First Place:

Second Place:

Third Place:

Thanks for your support!!

EDIT: I think next year I'll do a gingerbread carnival and spaceship with carnies fighting against aliens. Who knows.

As cool as that would have been, no, it's just cellophane with marker.

The church is made with gingerbread and covered with Toasted Marshmallow Jelly Bellies.
The steeple is graham cracker and the dark brown roof is Nutella.
The Bell is a Reeces Bell.
Cross is pretzel.
Roof shingles are Maple and Brown Sugar Life Cereal.
The trees are waffle cones covered in that spray on frosting. (You can see the can of it in the first photo.)
The wall around the cemetery is made of painstakingly stacked cut up Tootsie Rolls.
The church benches, the logs, and weeds are made with pieces of cinnamon sticks.
The crypt is also graham cracker.
Church doors are just carved dark Hershey's chocolate.
Cocoa powder for dirt/mud.
Licorice whips for the cemetery gate.
Chocolate/gingerbread tombstones.
And then we used a shload of white frosting.

As much as my department wanted to use a lot of blood and dismembered zombies, I had to keep it work appropriate. We have about 450 people at our work place and I'm sure someone would have complained if I'd had Jenny gunning that chainsaw into the torso of a zombie with blood flying all over the snow. Or maybe a mangled zombie in the grill of the Jeep. ...But, man, that would have been so awesome. Believe me, I thought about it.

I haven't had the heart to destroy it yet so it's still sitting on a table near my desk at work. It reminds my department to keep thinking of good ideas for next year's competition.
