Haha, many a game has been interrupted by a jumping, furry evil stirring from her slumber. (Even when we do play on the table...)

what was that little card caddy you had by the TV and where did you get it from?

Thanks for these. I've played a couple of games and knew I had to be doing some things wrong. This was a big help.
Question, if an encounter card says to add a gate and a monster do you also add a doom token to the ancient ones track?

Hi, Brett. Yes, if the gate is actually added (i.e. it's not a monster surge).

Thanks so much for doing this! I've been on the fence about getting AH for months, but I watched these over two days during my daily commute on the train, and you make the game look like so much fun, I'm going to have to give it a go now!

From a grateful newbie!! Thankyou
I've watched these more than I've actually played. Still on first play though, taking many hours.... great fun though.

Thanks for these videos, I'm planning my first 8 person game (I've played solo a few times and have played 3 players before) this weekend and this really helped set the procedures in place for me. I might check the office supply store too for something like those angled card racks you're using.

Seriously, it isn't. These days, I play all my games with 7 players (actually, this Friday we have a five-player scheduled, should be interesting).
Key things to watch out for in large parties are: 1) The gate limit! That sucker can kill you at the Mythos on turn two! 2) Clue tokens: these are spread real thin in an eight-player. Make sure nobody collects them that isn't going to seal with them and don't let anyone use them for anything other than sealing 3) Victory condition: you are pretty much stuck with gate sealing. Closing all gates will be tough because you'll need to keep eight gate trophies back (good luck with that) and beating on the AO will be tough because of the number of hits it'll take

Glad you found them of value, they're a great collection of advice from players with vastly more experience than myself; they form the backbone of the strategy that my group uses - with moderate success - these days. I'd be really pleased to hear if using any of the suggestions changed the way you play your big game and if you think they helped. Of course it's subjective, you can hardly run a controlled experiment after all, but it would be a useful contribution nevertheless.

Heh, if we even finish the game on Saturday it'll probably be a miracle, of the 8 of us (experienced gamers) only three have played one game before (not counting the solo games I'm playing this week to prepare) and one of those swore to never play again (since it's my birthday party I guilted him into giving it another shot
) also, depending how much mead is consumed (not the space variety) we may be creating our own variants!

You could be right; frankly, with AH it's the journey not the destination that I play the game for, so with good buddies, a little lubrication and a willingness to have fun you should have a stonking time! Just remember the mantra of "stick to the phase sequence... stick to the phase sequence". A quick dig in the files section will find some nice play aids too (the flowchart can be helpful).

I've been looking into this game for quite a while, and wanted to find a rulebook to read before purchasing. The walkthrough was great prep work for me. I'm sure I'll watch portions of it again for clarification. Thanks for posting.

I really like this video series. I watched it earlier this year and it inspired me to get the game. I don't really care if every rule was explained correctly. I got an idea how the game worked and that was what I wanted. Also, having the basic structure in my head when I got the game made it very easy to digest the rules.
I think this is the best game review/overview you've done, Grudunza.

A few moths ago I learned how to play this awesome game watching your videos on youtube. Today I found this post and just wanted to stop by to say thanks!

Just a quick word to say that I have watched the entire series of videos, which have helped me to both learn the game and decide to purchase it! Just wanted to say thanks for the time and effort put into these videos, super helpful (the playthrough really helped me consolidate what had been learned in the rulebook).
Very well done!

I watched this after I got the game and before I played it and I have to say I think the reason the first play through went so well was because of these videos. I have played twice now and both times have had very little in the way of rules missteps. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this! It made the whole game seem a LOT less daunting!

Thanks so much for the vids. I actually watched them all the day before I went out to buy the game. I also read the rulebook online on preperation for my first playthrough with real people (solo'd so I would be ready for any rule questions).
You're video was invaluable even with the mistakes (which were corrected when I saw it).

I'm confused because in the minute 3:15 of part 7 it is said that every time the terror track would go higher than 10 you add a doom token to the track but how can it go higher if there is no monster limit? If there is no monster limit, new monsters stay in the board instead of moving to the outskirts, right? So if they don't move to the outskirts then how can the terror track go up?

There are other ways that the Terror level can rise; Mythos cards, GOO abilities, etc.

Ho thanks a bunch for clearing that up and I must say your video tutorial made me buy the game

I've watched these videos a year ago, when I was trying to decide whether to buy the game or not. Once I saw them, I knew I was definitely going to buy that game

Very informative, much clearer then other videos explaining the game, and most of all they've managed to convey a good feel of the game.
Thank you very much!
