Was this the last original DnD?

I love 4E but it is more like World of Warcraft than DnD.

What does everyone else think?

It is a common complaint, but I played in a complete 4th ed campaign last year. I had a good time-- plenty of rp'ng and fun. If I wasn't so busy right now, then I would likely be running a game in it right now.

I have been playing d&d for over twenty years, and I find 4e an improvement. I like how the melee characters are interesting throughout the levels and aren't overshadowed by the casters. As a dm, I like how I can tune a campaign easier by which power sources I allow.

It isn't perfect (none of them have been). I think the treasure system was poorly thought out, and if the players aren't doing their calculations ahead of time... battles can really drag. All of the options can create AP (analysis paralysis.. not action points) for some players.

It is definitely a step away from previous editions, I can understand why people may dislike it. To each their own.

Well, not quite everyone. There are 7+ Billion people on the planet now, and I'm sure some of them have never thought of 4e DnD in any deep capacity

I actually like it. It is the easiest system to DM of any of them. Yes, it has its flaws (and don't they all) but it has its stellar things, too. I've been playing since 1st ed and I have different feelings about all of them and I get that some people won't like specific editions, and that is okay with me.

The criticism that I can't stand is when people say that it's a minis tactical game with no role-playing. The role-playing is what you make of it - if you play it as a minis game, then it will be a minis game. I don't DM mine as a minis game, so it isn't. More on this here: 4egaming blog.

In terms of it being too much like an MMORPG, well, how does a company bring new customers into the fold and convince them that their product is worth buying? It does that by creating something that appeals to users of similar products on different platforms. The changes to DnD that made it 4e have probably done more to add new players to the RPG industry than any other edition.
