New Gameplay Mechanics:
* The privilege to gain first pick selection of a group of travelers will no longer be determined by auction bidding.
* 4 rows of traveler cards will be laid out on the table in each of the 2 rounds of play.
* Travelers will be directed to bridges based on 2 color cubes that may be placed above each cards during setup. (Cards with no cubes may be directed to any Troll Bridge)
* Players will not only be controlling the Bridge Troll boards in front of them, but will also be vying for a majority stake control of a second secret alliance Troll Bridge. (The collection of 5 cubes of one color is required to claim a majority stake in a secret alliance.)
* Careful planning and the analysis of the perfect information laid out in front of both players will create tough decisions, as players will need to weigh their options regarding first pick privilege row selection.
* Players will claim first pick privilege by alternating the placement of Trophy Tiles to mark the rows they feel best suits their master plan.
* New traveler abilities have been redesigned for Jester, the Stonemason and the Billy Goats Gruff.

New Gameplay Objective: Your job is to direct travelers toward bridges to meet their uncertain fate. You are officially working in collaboration with one Troll Bridge operation (your known alliance) while trying to impress and establish a secret alliance with another. Travelers have directions they are thinking of heading and you must persuade them to move in the direction that best suits your master plan. The player with alliances to the 2 most successful bridge operations will win the game.

Nice variant! I just tried it and it was very interesting..

1 question.. The garlic merchant can be used more than once in a bridge?
for ex. You put him in a bridge with a knight and burps gulp him away and in the next pick a dragon goes there.
Can he burp again ?

Thanks for the feedback. I put a lot of time into playtesting and then documenting this variant. The Garlic Merchant is not removed from play until the bridge is subsequently scored, either at the end of a round or at the end of the game.

The idea is that if the bridge is not "claimed" (as a player's secret alliance) that the Garlic Merchant will protect that bridge and make it more appealing as a catchup mechanism for a trailing player.

Do you think the Garlic Merchant should be removed immediately ?

Perhaps a bridge should be required to be scored at the end of a round if one of the players has accumulated enough stones to make it their "secret alliance". That may address what I believe is your concern.

Thoughts ?
