I'm interested in this game, but I think it would only fit in my collection if it played up to 8. The Casablanca edition does that, but is a little pricey to get in the US.
If I were to get two copies of the MB version and combine the components, would it work?
I realize I would only use one board, suitcase, and set of spies. I would use the money, bank books and pawns from the second copy.
Thoughts?

You don't need a second copy. There are no pawns other than the spies. There is no money - all money is simply recorded in the bank books. You can take pages out of the existing bank books and hand them out to the additional players. I'm not so sure the board would work for 8, though, and the downtime with 8 could be too much.
You can find 8 'symmetric' spots that could be used as headquarters: Rio, Havana, Zurich, Berlin, Singapore, Tokyo, Casablanca, Brussels. Then the existing headquarters are inaccessible, though, and wasted space, so I'd also add links from the existing headquarters straight up to the cities above them (e.g. DC to Cairo).

Wow, thanks for the reply. I definitely misunderstood the components. It's not like I have any shortage of pawns floating around.
I'll probably pick one up and see how it works. It's cheap enough to take the risk.
