There are 7 games I want to play by June 30th, 2012

My 19 month old son has been playing Go Away Monster for several weeks now and he is hooked. Anytime he sees the game, he will carry it around the house yelling something resembling "Go Away Monster" until we get it on the table and play (he may just be copying what I do when I want to play a game).

After my 4 year old daughter and I played a game of Go Away Monster with him, we tried to get him into a game of Hisss which he had played once before with me (successfully).

He was doing pretty well to match up colors and even naming a few of them properly, but quite a bit of guidance is still required. Fortunately, my 4 year old is supremely patient and helped to coach him to make legal moves. He was doing pretty well to wait his turn and flip a tile and match it up.

Then... he saw Go Away Monster on the table. He kept yelling "Gobah" while pointing at the box. If I gave him the box, he would look at it, set it down and then take his turn in Hisss. This happened every turn for the remainder of the game.

All in all, it was a success. And, after it was over and my daughter and I cleaned up Hisss, he had already set up Go Away Monster for us and we played that again too.

So, Hisss seems to be a fantastic game for getting familiar with colors and I'm sure we'll play it more (when we can squeeze it in between games of Go Away Monster). I can see that he is already naming a few colors he didn't seem to know before we started playing this game. And, a few times he has rotated the piece himself to match it up on the correct side. He definitely still needs help getting the snake body to match up next to the snake body though. He notices the difference between a head, tail and body but doesn't seem to recognize yet when a snake is complete because it has all three of those parts.

Since this Hisss report ended up including a lot of Go Away Monster references, here is a link to a session report from a game of Go Away Monster that I played with him a few months ago: http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/472129/playing-gang-alba-ans...

By the way, as I walked out the door for work this morning, he had Go Away Monster set up on the table with my 4 year old and they were playing by themselves. Beautiful!
