The rules are not explicit about whether auctions continue indefinitely, or stop with the auctioneer. For example, if the auctioneer calls a "By Refusal" auction, and the auction comes all the way back to him after everyone has passed, will the auction continue if he passes as well until the piece is finally accepted? And is the "By Refusal" action the same as the "Highest Bidder" auction?

Hi Michael!
Princess and I (and occasionally Annie) are enjoying this fun dexterity game as well. From my rules (P. 4-I have the MB Bandau edition):

Quote:
If a piece is refused it continues to be passed to the left as many times as necessary until any player (including the auctioneer) chooses to use the piece, or is forced to use the piece after running out of beans. Anyone who refuses the piece, of course, must pay one bean to the center pile.

To Bid auctions are your typical 'rising auction'-pay one MORE bean than before until no one raises. Again, it keeps going until all but one have dropped out.

As far as non-winner beans. For the "refusal bid"

Quote:
NOTE: all beans paid to the center pile are out of play.

We play this that you do NOT get your beans back.

For "to bid" auction, it only states:

Quote:
The highest bidder gets the piece, pays the bid to the center pile and must immediately place the piece on his or her tower.

This is a bit more ambiguous, but we've been playing that ALL bid beans (not just winning bid) are out of play.

In any event, the bidding and to refuse/to bid mechanic adds a nice element to an otherwise ordinary stacking/tower/dexterity game.

Thanks David. I found this game at GW for $2.99, but it didn't have rules. The Bausack rules posted online use different language than what you posted. That makes the "By Refusal" auction far more dangerous for all. The MB Bandu rules appear to be far more clear! Thanks for the clarification!
