I own the Zoch edition of Shear Panic, that is, the German one called "Haste Bock?". The thing is, that game comes with a board, and apparently the rules are different. I've tried to download the rules for the original game on its website since I read that the game was better that way, but I got a 404.

How exactly are the two games different? Does it really matter that much if we play by one ruleset or the other?

Didn't know there were differences, but it seems you're right.
I had a look at those rule summary files:
Shear Panic - Rule Summary & Player Aids
SP_NewBoards-Summary1.pdf

Main difference seems to be the re-unite the flock rule, which is not present in the Zoch version if I remember correct.
