We played Bausack and then tried the following variant, very much inspired by No Thanks!, which turned out very successful. It kept things moving quickly and allowed for strategic depth.
Everyone starts with 5-10 counters and a base piece.
On your turn you either 1. Pass and put a counter in the middle, or 2. Take the piece in the middle with all counters. If you have no counters you must take the piece and counters. Place your piece on your structure. Draw new piece from bag and resume from player who took last piece.
As I said, it worked very smoothly and was loads of fun.

Very cool! I love both games but this never occurred to me.
The regular Bausac auction is brutal for someone who gets cash poor at the beginning so this might give someone a chance to come back.

There is even a variant to this variant. Instead of drawing you might chose an available piece.
In my opinion this adds much to the game as you can now prepare your tower for a hard piece and then select it to gain some cash.

This is how we have been playing for a few years. Best option we found to keep it lively and exciting, but with a bit of strategy.

So how do counters leave the game? Seems like this variant would not be as tense with the limit of 5 total counters for the whole game.
