This past weekend my son (5 yo) bugged me more times than I can remember to play the "egg" game. So, on Sunday night I got out the game and we sat down. My youngest daughter (3 yo) wanted to play as well. My eldest said she could be on her team. We broke out the game and set up the path. It was quickly evident that my youngest and eldest had different ways to play, so we let them each play independently. It was a blast watching my youngest daughter just go in and grab the eggs. She didn't care what color, where she was on the path just that she was playing a game and pulling little wooden eggs out of the basket. Funny thing was, she made it to the end of the path and won the game.
Since the first game was fairly short, we set it up again. Again, my youngest just liked pulling the eggs out of the basket. I should have let her get them for me since I tripped the alarm several times. After a few turns, she saw us flipping up the tiles and started flipping up tiles willy nilly. She would flip up a tile, call out the color and grab that egg. We kind of had to improvise the placement of her wolverine if she started pulling out eggs where there was no place to go. Again, she made it to the end stack but tripped the alarm. My eldest daughter was next in play order and right behind her. She was able to get to the end stack and pull the eggs revealing the Gulo Jr. to win.
Us 'Geeks spend pages and pages debating the finer points of our favorite design. While I am sure that Gulo Gulo isn't on anybody's top brain burner list and there really isn't much to debate - nothing beats playing this game with your kids, especially the young ones, deftly grab eggs from the bottom of the nest when there are easier ones to reach, all of them cheering mom and dad to trip the alarm, or watching your three year old beam as she pulls out the purple egg (doesn't matter that it was her first turn of the game). Great fun. This is what the hobby is about.

Absolutely. My 6 year old loves to play this, She has more fun watching her daddy trip the Alarm, then she does actually winning the game.. She can't wait to teach her younger brother to play (1.5yrs).
She also likes:
Château Roquefort
Especially when she gets to make Daddy's mice fall into the holes...

Indeed. I think this needs to be my next purchase for my 3-year-old daughter, though I'm considering Chicken Cha Cha Cha given that it has a younger age listed on the box. She liked the look of both of them in the Rio Grande brochure that came with Kids of Carcassonne. Other than KoC, she has Go Away, Monster! (mostly outgrown but still gets to the floor occasionally), Orchard (also not too often requested any more), Sequence for Kids, and Tier auf Tier (currently vying with KoC for her most popular game--these are also the two that I enjoy most, so I'm happy about that situation!).

I agree. This is my favorite game of all time for the dozens of games I have played with my nieces and nephews and sometimes just moderated with.
Also, it is excellent for my retarded 42-year-old sister. I am saddened sometimes when I see her watching us play even simple card games or board games that she could never understand. But she is able to play Gulo Gulo and Incan Gold and enjoys just being part of the group. And, even though she is older like me and so bigger fingers, she still enjoys playing even when she trips the alarm. And, with Incan gold, although she cannot understand the concept of points or money, she enjoys picking weather to stay or leave.

Gulo Gulo is easily the most popular game amongst my kids; and this is several years after we bought it! Gulo Gulo has that magical quality that makes it enjoyable for the whole family. I am sure that this game will be played for many years to come, and sometime (far) in the future I think I will have fun with my grandkids playing this game.
