My family had the luxury to all be together for a Mother's Day celebration. This included my Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother-in-law, my 6 year-old niece, 1 year old nephew, Brother, (future) Sister-in-law, and my lovely wife. The 6 year-old desperately wanted to play Life with the adults. So we all agreed to play and picked cars - away we go! I haven't played Life in 20 years and was secretly dreading the experience; my boardgame interests typically are a little more sophisticated.
With seven of us playing (my Dad, Brother-in-law and the 1-year old not involved), I figured the game would take about 3 hours. I began my career as a journalist - only making half as much each Payday as the lawyers and doctors in the family. My niece was very excited and involved in the beginning - we teased her about who she was marrying at the mandatory stop. We asked her the names of boys in her class and if she was marrying them - she got embarrassed and finally she told us that her new husband didn't have a name. She also didn't like her opportunities to Share the Wealth or sue someone on the Revenge spot. Her first opportunity for Revenge, she took a long time and finally said "My mom" - which caused all of us to laugh and high-five (except for my sister). In later opportunities, she still didn't want to pick one of us - but we told her that it was part of the game and no one would be mad at her and she reluctantly sued my brother and later my sister-in-law.
As the game progressed, she started to lose interest as her attention span neared its limits. She really lost interest since she did land on any spaces that gave her children - which was apparently her favorite part of the game. When given an option to collect $480,000 or give birth to a daughter, we had to talk her into the money. :) What it would be like to be young again! I on the other hand, had a carload of children spilling out of my vehicle.
Once the Day of Reckoning was reached, several players who knew that they were hopelessly behind tried for the instant win and failed. The rest of us hoped for a win based on the cash we had amassed. Luckily the game only lasted about 90 minutes - even with 7 players. I ended up with the 2nd highest total. And who won? My 6 year-old niece of course!
She didn't seem all that excited about winning - although I'm sure she would have hated to lose. Hopefully, rather than winning or losing, she will look back fondly one day (perhaps when she has her own kids) on the Mother's Day when she beat all of the adults, and reminded the rest of us what Life is all about.

Filing lawsuits against our Mothers? On Mothers Day?
