Hi,

Can see many threads skirting around this question. But none are so clear as to give me the answer I need.

I have the Mayfair Revised Edition of the Catan Card game:

I'm looking to purchase expansions for this; here are the two I'm comparing:
http://www.boardgameclub.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_i...
http://www.boardgameclub.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_i...

Please can someone clarify:
1) What is the difference between the two, and
2) Can I use either?
3) Which do you recommend/why?

Many thanks!

Ah, I can see why you are confused. They both have the same description.

The description provided, though, applies only to the first item you linked to, the "Settlers of Catan Card Update Kit".

Once upon a time, they released the "Settlers of Catan Card Game." Then came the "Settlers of Catan Card Game Expansion Set", which included 5 expansions.

Then, they revised the whole darned game. They renamed the base set as "Catan Card Game" and tweaked some of the cards. They renamed the expansion pack "Catan Card Game Expansion Set", updated a few cards, AND included a 6th expansion (Barbarians and Traders).

If the base game you have is called "Catan Card Game", then you have no use for the item in your first link. All you need is the "Catan Card Game Expansion Set (revised edition)" that is pictured, but not described, in the second link.

If you have the base set, you still want the item in the second link. Since it includes Barbarians and Traders, you still don't need the "Upgrade Kit" except to get the tweaked cards. Personally, I wouldn't consider it necessary, but hey, whatever.

My suggestion would be to confirm with the seller that the second item is in fact the item pictured, and then buy it.

Hope that helps.

Kevin

Argh! A newer version?! I feel so obsolete.

Thanks for the link. The blog is an interesting read.

If someone had the newer Catan Card game, could they play it with the old expansion?
