We will be adding a plastic tray insert into the PoH game box. I posted a jpg in the file area and would be interested in any comments or additional ideas. The game will ship with all of the maps and counter sheets on top of the counter wells. After players have punched their counters and sorted them into the wells, the maps will lay on top of them. So in both cases, everything will fit nice and snug. I added enough room to accomodate all of the SoS, AtB, and PoH counters in this tray, if players so desire. I also tried to leave enough room between the wells, for players who like to label each area.

In addition, I added two deep cups in the front to hold the hit counters during game play.

I also tried to make a slanted card holder, but just ran out of room. The box is already 4mm larger than the previous boxes, because we wanted to give the map boards a little more space for when they are pulled our or stored. Currently, we feel that they fit a little bit too snug.

Again, any comments or ideas would be highly appreciated! I have to send the files to the die maker soon.
Thanks,
Uwe

Will you be able to put the maps and other contents for AtB and SoS into the new box?

That was what I was wondering. With the box being 4mm bigger, I doubt that all the maps would fit. I do not know if there is value of having a plastic try that contains all the AtB and SoS counters if the boards have to be stored or carried another way.

My first thought is: How much will this add to the cost? Ziploc bags have served me well in every other wargame...

Not only do plastic bags serve me well, they are my preference. They are easier to store and easier to organize.

I think it's a fantastic idea. :-)

At some point we're going to need an official COH carring case to carry all the various modules. Of course, by that point it will be so heavy it will need an extendable handle and wheels like a modern suitcase just to be able to move it around!

The boards to the other games will not fit into the same box of course. That would make a total of 12!
The insert will not add any costs to the game, since I need some type of packing in the inside anyway.

If possible, please make it in a reasonably heavy gauge plastic. I have some inserts that are very thin plastic, and the sides cave in or tear. And pick a color (like black) that has good contrast with the counters and cards.

Okay, I'm sold. If all I have to do is carry a few boards seperately instead of three game boxes, that is okay. Great idea!

Would they fit if you ditched the insert and used bags?

This customised plastic insert costs no more than a folded bit of cardboard? That's a damn good supplier you have there!

I like the idea. Will there be a tray for each new game too? Like one in the Guadalcanal game and then another one in First Men In?

Dean,
that is the idea.
Actually, my quote for a really nice platic insert does not cost much more than the cardboard insert. I guess all of the folding and setup work adds to the costs. Remember, I am not printing in China, so our labor costs are a bit higher, so a totally automated molding process looks quite good. What costs $$ are the die costs. That is why I want this tray to be right the first time, so that it will work in all of the CoH games going forward.

I really liked making the card tray larger to accomodate sleeved cards.

I will work on making these trays fit the previous boxes also. There is only a 6mm difference.

This is a great idea, Uwe! I was playing both games against a friend a couple of weeks ago and we were discussing how I need to find some sort of storage box where I can keep all of the counters from both games sorted. You've saved me what would likely have ended up being an evening of searching for an appropriate storage system (and a few bucks).

Yes I also want to say thanks for not printing in China. And as an American who would love to see more made here please consider finding a US printer even if it raises the price a buck or two. Or printing in Europe as a second choice works too to please your European fans.

Anyway I got to say this insert is really nice. Just seen the real pic of it on the front page no less. Now I'm divided. Do I continue to use my GMT trays or this?

If those 2 wells are for placing the hit counters I would suggest doing away with them and using the space for something else in the future. I use coffee cups for this purpose and can't imagine anything better for the job. Oh and I noticed the dice are in pockets of two. My second suggestion would be to expand that to 2 sets of 3 sized pockets. I think many of us are using the 3d6 AP option so for room for 6 total dice would be nice. Of course no need to include more than 3 dice in any future releases. I will finally have 6 of these nice black dice once POH arrives.

Jesse, the wells are for the cards and were made oversized for those that sleeve them. Over the cards fit the map overlays.

Ah Cool. So the map overlays go in this well too. Good thinking. I much prefer this design to the earlier draft that said there will be wells for the hit counters. I'm glad that idea was ditched because most of us probably use coffee cups or something like that for the hit counters anyway.

Will these be available for separate purchase (i.e. to use in SoS and AtB)? I'm using GMT trays but this looks like a MUCH nicer solution.
