The simple answer is Yes. However the Product featured here contains the standalone game.

There is a seperate Boardgame which shares the same components and has a subset of the Rulebook and excludes items that cover the Flames of War minis.

I am going to add it as a variant.

I ordered it last week as a pre-order and it arrived yesterday , I have to say it is far better than expected and the game system is deceptively simple but the stratrgic options are not.

The units are plastic minis and quite well done although the scales differ they are cool (My 12 year old loved them and the board.) Which is a high quality 3 piece , glossy finished mounted board 4 feet by 2 feet 120 * 60.

This could be to Flames of War what LnL's WSR is to ASL, I was going to say WaW but that didnt quite work.

The unit represent the critical forces within the campaign and a battle can actually take place to control an area without units!! this represents the general forces within an area. It is unlikely that many battles will be fought this way.

The game is somewhat similar to DVG's Rommel with a more tactical feel.

My 12 Year old laid out the components and picked up the "Battle Arrows" and said its just like the real planning rooms and was keen to start playing.

So I would say a high score for Appeal.

More to follow.

But how is this campaign played without using Flames of War miniatures for the battles?

I found this video on youtube where they also talk about that you could play this alone, but not about how.

I have the "boardgame" version of this, which I believe is exactly the same, minus the rules for using this as a campaign system for the minis game. The individual combats are fought using dice like any other board wargame. (I haven't read through them yet, so I don't have the details, but there's an extensive review of the game here on BGG that talks about it.)

Where is the "extensive review"?
