So, here's a first swing at removing randomness from the game. Completely untested...

Instead of rolling the die at the start of each turn, choose one of three options:

* Move your character one space. Rotate the pyramid as if you'ld rolled a 1 on the die.
* Move your character two spaces.
* Move your character three spaces. Then, the player to your right gets to move the mummies down, following the usual rules.

When you reach the top level of the pyramid and are confronting the mummy king, lift the pyramid open to reveal the four gems inside. One by one, identify which hidden temple contains a gem of that color - if you fail to identify all four, you return to the base of the pyramid.

Thoughts?

I like it, except that you'd never choose to move 3. Instead:

* Move your character three spaces. Then, move the mummies down, following the usual rules.

That way you still have the advantage in moving the mummies down.

I think he was giving you a balanced option. Moving 3 has consequences. Moving 2 is safe.
