We thought the beaver role too boring and so came up with this alternative to keep the river flowing but providing some help. New rule is that the Beaver does not slow the river speed. Intead the beaver is put in the river at the start at the landing place. When the beaver is pushed on to one arm of the river onto the last disk before falling off the falls he builds a dam (e.g. use a pencil) which does not prevent water flow but keeps the boats safe. The dam gets washed away by the whirlpool disc if it goes down the same branch of the river. When the dam has been washed away the beaver re enters the river at the landing stage and the process repeats itself. Have a go it is certainly more exciting to keep the river flowing fast.

I like this variant to go along with my "Hungry Beaver" variant. Makes it much more fun.

I also like this variant. I went out to collect some twigs to make a beaver dam. But how do you keep the pencil on the board - merely hold it there? I'm finding that the weight of the canoes takes the pencil/twigs over the falls.
