One thing I found ambiguous in the rules was where you're allowed to place castles. The 3 most likely possibilities would be:
1. Anywhere (including Enemy-held regions)
2. In regions held by Royal or Baronial units
3. In regions held by Royal units
(all excluding regions where there is currently no castle)

I've been assuming option 1.
Does anyone know what the official ruling is?

Anywhere; though there would have to be an extremely good reason for me to place a castle on enemy-held territory.

Maybe if I know my rival is going to be attacking an enemy-held area which I'm not interested in invading, and I've already got enough defence for my own regions?

Thanks for the reply
