Hmm. Don't forget to concentrate on more novel or unpublished games. Maybe hneftafel? Otherwise you will eventually be just making novelty chess sets.

Don't worry, Bruce
Please take a look at the header of this thread:
NESTORGAMES newsletter: "Web of Flies" published!
I publish modern and classic games. I've always wanted to produce an innovative edition of Go, and I've finally found the way. But before that comes Linkage or Ostriches, for example.

I'm quite curious what innovation you'll make. Perhaps something like lines of action for your next classic title

Néstor,
Are you publishing 13X13 and 9x9 boards as well?
The problem I have with my go set is it is only 19x19. So if I can carry all 3 boards in compact way, that will be a huge advantage for me to get new set.
Can we do reversible boards to do this to minimize the mass?

Hi, Ken.
You can always use the 'Battle for Olympus' solution (using plastic rods to define the corners of the board).
I cannot make reversible boards, as the pads have only one printable face

Hi, Néstor,
I have tried playing 13x13 or 9x9 games using 19x19 board. It was pretty annoying as the edges and corners of the board is so important for Go. Also maybe it has to do with putting the pieces on the intersections of the grid, unlike most other games. So I am always looking for a way to have all 3 sizes in compact way.
Too bad that the board cannot be reversible. Anyway, I am looking forward to see Néstorgames Go set!

Re: Néstor
It shouldn't be impossible to have the smaller boards printed in different colours, right?

That is an interesting idea! If it is done well like Einfach Genial (Ingenious), then I will buy that board.

EDITED.

Re: Néstor
Wow it was quick!
I think the shade should end on the edges, not middle of squares, so that it is easy to see the edges of smaller boards. I don't know if any go publisher ever tried this before. As far as I know, I haven't seen one. They always sell 3 boards separately. There should be a nice way to combine them without loosing the traditional look.
I play both 19x19 and 13x13 depends on the time I have and opponent. Also 9x9 is still an excellent starting point and good educational tool. So it will be nice if you can come up with cool design.
I don't know how difficult to design the board (or choose colors) to maintain some traditional feel AND practical for smaller boards. It may be a challenge.

Edited. Take a look now. Better?

Re: Néstor
I always respect your quick responses! It does look better now. Now what the darkness of each region should be? From outer ring to middle square, you have
dark-light-dark
It maybe better to do
dark-normal-light
or
light-middle-dark
I mean, gradual fading-in or fading-out, rather than only the middle ring having a lighter color.
This is just a thought. I am not design professional or anything. Well you have time to play around with the design. Let me know when you get something interesting!

Re: Néstor
I prefer dark-light-dark, as in Cross. But let's make a poll:

A gradient would make it super hard to notice the edge when the board started to be covered. Dark light dark is fine.

Hi Néstor,
I would like to see some of the possible combination of shades that we have discussed. I am a visual person. Is it too much work? I vote for dark-medium-light but it may not be too good as Bruce said. Only way to find out is to see it.

Hmmmm... I see people vote for the original board.
Maybe I could add an aditional pad with a 13,9 board. What do you think?
This would increase the price a bit.

Not that easy. Sold separatedly will have a higher price.
The only solution is to sell 2 sets of GO. The regular one and the one with the extra board.

The solution I use on a Go or Wei Qi board is this: Play in a corner, and build a fence around the playfield for the game using spare stones, or coins, or something. It's free.

This would increase the price a bit. Oh, I thought "original" meant "keep it dark-light-dark as shown in my pic." Because there is no dark-light-dark option.
So how do I vote if I like what you have up right now? I think the colors to indicate the size is a great idea.
