The hubby and I sat down this morning to continue the gamer saga: The Mission., so we poured the coffee and opened DVONN.

I haven't played it much, but am finding the more I play abstract games, the more I like them. It's understanding them that is the real challenge. Here's how it panned out.

Game 1

Bryan, being more familiar with Dvonn, started, and I followed. I had picked a strategy of alienating as many as his black pieces as I could from the board, as opposed to his, where he tried to gobble up as many as my pieces into stacks as possible. His strategy blew mine out of the water, and with good reason. I began to understand the strategy, and Bryan will tell you when I understand a game, watch out.

Bryan 1 - Kat 0

Game 2

I started, moving along the edge, covering his where I could, and concentrating on not only getting the larger stacks, but getting rid of his. It's definitely a game where you have to see the whole board, and figure out the possible reactions to your actions, which I did, gaining me a victory.

Bryan 1 - Kat 1

Game 3

It comes down to one final game. Bryan started, and I tried working my pieces on top of his, making sure if he could cover my stacks, I had something available to get them back. If I didn't, I tried placing them somewhere where I could (i.e. moving a white to a black where it would be two spaces away from a stack of his, wihout there being one black next to the stack to ruin what I had done). The real move was when I alienated one of his larger stacks from the surrounding red group. Oh, it was glorious. Definitely need to play this more. In the end:

Bryan- 1

Kat- 2

Trying to imagine what you meant, this is what I came up with:

Frankly, I think he's better off just letting his inner beauty shine through.
