I really like this game.

However,

some of the question cards are a little... off. Some are too similar to each other, and some are not really plausible joke-set-up lines. Why would there ever be a joke that starts, "What's the punchline of the joke about..."?

Also, since there are only twenty of them, they can get repetitive.

But I don't want to complain without proposing a solution. New question cards might help to inspire creative thinking and different types of answers. And they're simple enough to create using index cards cut down to size, or whatever, and you can then freely mix them in with the set.

So here's a few I've thought of:

What was the title of the movie about ... and ...?
What did ... and ... name their band?
How did ... survive stranded on a desert island with ...?
Why should you never leave ... alone with ...?
How did ... break up ...'s marriage?
Why should you give someone ... when they ask for ...?
What's the proper way to introduce ... to ...?
When ... went to lunch with ..., what kind of food did they order?

And you can even come up with group-specific ones, like:

Why is ... better at board games than ...?
What board game would ... play with ...?

Any others? Please post your ideas here. I want to add to my set.

Or you could even make some naughty ones:

How does ... have sex with ...?
Why is ... sexier than ...?
How can you use ... and ... to spice up your love life?
Why is ... aroused by ...?

Some other wierd ones:

How would you kill someone using ... and ...?
Why does ... vote for ... for public office?
Why does ... make a better sports team mascot than ...?
How would a combination of ... and ... benefit society?

Some of those are really good. I'll have to stick them on a few business cards and try them in a game.

Yes, the original 20 cards are intentionally vague and open, because there's always a fear of making a question card, or a noun, that always has just one joke. Or worse, no jokes at all. We had a lot more than 20 question cards to start, and narrowed them down to the few that worked well with a wide variety of nouns.

But I'm not making a new version of the game, I can just take the questions that I like from your list and try them out. Have you played any of these?

No, I haven't tried them out yet, but I will. It was my last session that inspired me to do this.

It isn't that the question cards are too open or vague, it's that some of them are awkward or are too generic. But no, I certainly don't expect you to make a new version of the game. This is more of a personal customization thing. Individual groups and families could put their own questions in that have meaning to them.

I'll have to try them out, but I don't see too many of mine having "only one joke". For a random example:

What was the title of the movie about an octopus and a carpenter?

"Power Tentacles!"
"Eight Nail Guns"
"Saw VIII"
"Jesus Walks Under the Water, Too."
"1 Hammer, Many Suction Cups"

Great ideas!! I'm going to have to add some of these to my game, and perhaps come up with a few of my own.

BTW, Jacob, I may have met you in person at Origins in 2005, at the WdtC booth. I remember playing with a few guys there and immediately deciding to buy the game. It was intended as a gift for my mom, who likes games like this, but it's become more of a gift for myself, essentially.

Glad to see you enjoy the game. I had great fun at conventions sitting and playing it for hours. But the game is, at its core, too hard. It's really hard to be creative on the spot, and so for many people who consider themselves light party gamers, this game is too much of a brain burner. It will work for some groups, but not most. My group loves it, which is why I sunk a lot of time and money into producing it.

As such, we ended up doing just the one print run, and when my wife and I separated, we sold all our copies to funagain.com for a song. I see you can pick them up from Amazon.com for $7 each, which is not a lot more than it cost me to print them in the first place.

There are other variants, which I think you can find at http://www.koryheath.com/games/the-chicken-game-system

I guess (some of) my gaming friends and especially my family are just funny, creative people.
