It didn't, they're 2 different games. I don't know if Rumis is still produced, but it did come out with an expansion called Rumis+ which never was released for Blokus 3D (which does claim it is Rumis on the box.) Still, Blokus 3D is a nicer version (IMHO), I like the plastic insert bases and the nice rotary table, plus the striking and standard Blokus colors I much prefer.

Other than the expansion, what are the differences between the two? My version of Rumis has the same bright colors (and plastic pieces) as Blokus 3D, as well as a rotary table:

It's just a de-theme. The puzzle boards are cut out masks, which makes it a bit more user friendly. I don't think there is a play difference.
