I (and BGG) are looking for a few volunteers who want to help us manage the file submissions here on the site. As the site has grown, so have the quantity of file submissions. I have served as the head of file approvals for a few years now, and it has come to the point that we need some new help in order to meet this file approval demand.
Currently, it can take as many as 10 days for a file to get thru the system - as all of the files submitted must be reviewed by a file admin prior to approval. While this falls within our posted acceptable range of file approval time, we would obviously like to get this down to 1 to 2 days. The best way for us to accomplish this is to add a few willing users to take on this task.
So who are we looking for? 1. Users who want to help 2. Users who log on daily or at least 5 days a week 3. Users who can give at least 10 minutes a day to look at files - though this time does not have to be contiguous. It could be 5 different two-minute breaks where you can look at one or two files per break. 4. Users who can read different languages would be nice but not necessary (the bulk of the files are in English, but German, Spanish, French, Dutch are common)
What does the job entail? Every file submitted must be reviewed by a file admin to make sure that the file works, does not have copyright issues, meets the posted BGG file submission guidelines (such as file formats) and does not duplicate previously submitted files.
File minions would have access to these files - they need to download the file, open them, and judge the validity of the submission. For uncomplicated files, the process takes only a minute or two. For files that turn out to be more complicated, they would be deferred to my attention.
What's in it for you? While we haven't quite figured out how we are going to do this, the compensation scheme likely will involve
1. GG payment based on time spent doing the work 2. Special micro badge denoting your file minion status 3. Accolades from your peers for helping make BGG work better 4. A hearty handshake from Derk when he runs into you
So, are you interested? If so, reply to this thread with your interest.
Thanks to everyone for helping make BGG the great site that it is Dale Head file admin

I'd be very happy to be a file minion. Especially with 10 minute minimum. I suspect I spend over an hour a day on the site already.

1. It's about time I did something for BGG
 2. I usually check in multiple times per day. 3. Only 10 minutes? Shouldn't be a problem. 4. My native language is Dutch. English shouldn't pose a problem, and in a pinch I can probably figure out German and French as well.

I can't commit to being on here almost daily, but I would like to thank Dale for all the behind-the-scenes work he's clearly doing with one of the most useful yet under-appreciated aspect of BGG. And thanks to all the users who have already jumped in to volunteer your time!! I'm excited at the prospect of a decreased time for approving files!

I'm willing to help as well. I log daily and I certainly have at least 15 minutes to give BGG each day (I'm usually there 2-3 hours a day on work days, 1 or 2 when I'm at home).
I can read French and English.

1. I would love to help.
2. Oh man, I am not even going to think about how much time is spent here. 3. It'll give me a rationalization for being on here everyday. 4. I can do English and a smattering of Spanish, probably not enough to make much of a difference.
You've got a lot of offers already but count me in if you want me to help.
