Last game, we played with the following victory condition:

Either control 3 roles at the end of the role assignment phase OR build 5 heroes/wonders OR build the pyramids. That is, any one of these wins the game.

We played with 6 players, and the winner won by building his 5th wonder/hero.

It is unclear to me from the mention about the alternate victory condition (3 roles) in the rules, whether people do this as a replacing victory condition or an additional one.

What do you think? Would you play with 3 roles as the only victory condition, as an additional option, or not at all?

I like the three office victory condition as long as you're playing with a full table. With fewer players, you have to worry about it too much.

Yes, but do you play with this as an additional condition, i.e. you can win by controlling three offices OR building the pyramids OR building 5 honders? Or do you play that there is only one victory condition and that is to control three roles?

Using the "3 roles" victory condition only might make a game last forever, but you might try it. soblue
However, as an additional victory condition (I'm sure it was meant this way) it gives you another (risky?) possibility to win. Rather than concentrating on building heroes/wonders you probably play more aggressive with a strong army, occupying buildings or converting provinces.

It is an addiitonal condition. Something of an easy one IMO, but been a while since I played this.
