This seems to be a popular theme in this forum But we just finished our first Overlord game. It was a lot of fun, even though one of the Field Generals didn't actually like the game that much and retreated (leaving the Allies with one CIC and one FG manning the board).

My questions :

1) Are there any timing rules other that the ones indicated on the command cards (some tactics are to be performed by the CIC first etc.)? Or is the order in which the FGs perform their actions arbitrary? My question is, should one FG always go first or can the order be as the team wants?

2) The command cards held by the CIC; I presume these are to be kept hidden from the FGs?

3) From what I read the rules state that all command cards handed out to th e FGs need to be played, which means only the CIC has a hand to manage, right?

1) We've always played that the actions of the FG's can be carried out in any order. It's possible that two FG's could work together to attack a particular group of units. As far as I'm aware, they're free to discuss the situation and coordinate actions as they please.

2) I don't think they need to be kept hidden, but there are limitations on the CinC talking with the FGs. At the beginning of the game, as the CinC, I'll often show a card that I have to the player in that sector asking him to set up for a particular action. After that, because you're limited to talking with the FGs, you may not be able to discuss things with that FG for a few turns.

3) Yes, only the CinC has to manage cards. The FG can, of course, roll a die to use his initiative if he doesn't get a card.

I agree with Kent's answers. Just wanted to add that in our online games of OL, the CinC would dictate which sections would activate in which order. This also helped to keep the game moving.
