Subject: breaking the 'more than one tile' rule at the end of the game? rss

At the end of the game, when there are no more tiles to be drawn and the only possible play(s) is(are) illegal due to the 'tracks must be more than one tile long' rule, does one:

1) end the game with the board (and some cars' tracks) incomplete, or
2) play the tiles as a forced move and score only 1 for one or more cars?

My wife and I played a game last night (with the 3 tiles each, any orientation variants--the best way to play by far) and ended up in this situation and it actually made the difference in terms of who won.

We decided to play option #2, as it made the most sense. Thoughts?

The rules are clear on this... you cannot play the tile if it results in this situation UNLESS there are no other valid placement locations.

Hope that helps... you seem to have played it correctly.

EDIT -- From page 2 of the Rules Sheet:
Quote:
A tile may not be placed in a way that a cable car line is connecting its departure station with a destination station passing only one tile. The only exception to this rule is when there is absolutely no other way to place the tile.

Yes, I found this just a few hours after posting and felt rather stupid. Thanks for the help, though!

Nope... not stupid at all. Do you have any idea how many times I've scoured a rulebook, only to ask a question here and get a rules quote that was staring me in the face for hours?

No worries, sir... no worries. Glad you got an answer, either way.
