In the NFL version of Connect Four they added a new way of winning. To create a diamond with the opposing players piece in the middle of the diamond is another way to win.

Has this version of the connect four rules debuted before the NFL version? I think it makes the game quite clever.

I'm not sure. I did check the rules for Connect 4 (Revised Edition), which came out in 2009, and there's no mention of the diamond configuration.

The official NFL sanctioned version of Connect Four? Heh, like they don't have enough money already. It sounds interesting, I just hope the NFL doesn't mess with Twixt.
