I would suggest separating Art/Graphics from Graphic Design in the future. Is that too advanced for BGG? There are games that I give a 10 for art/graphics and a 1 for graphic design. It's pretty tough to rate them under a single topic.

Wow. I made a point of playing lots of different games this year, to help me with the IGA voting, but I can't believe how many of these nominated games I've never played.

I agree, and I will enjoy some of the tough decisions presented. I have played many of the games on the list this year, and think that the categories sorted out pretty nicely.

You just say that because you haven't played that archetypal wargame, Chaos in the Old World.

Note that the actual range of voting values is 1-10, not 1-15 as documented...
In the grand annual tradition of whining about miscategorized games: I'm personally bemused by a couple of the "Abstract" games which don't sound abstract at all from what I can tell:
Ablaze!: a coop game where "players are firefighters trying to contain a spreading wildfire"
Court of the Medici: "a casual card game of politics and intrigue at the Medici court."
Both games of chance with theme in mechanics and component art...?

Dire, absolutely dire. These awards are becoming more and more a joke...
Just out of curiosity, how many nomination votes would a game have needed to get nominated?

I think for next year, we'll just go by "random_ word_game_of_the_year", e.g. Carrot Game of the Year: Small World; Echinate Game of the Year: The Adventurers etc. Makes as much sense...

ibn_ul_khattab wrote: Perhaps, but the wargame one is even more of a joke than last year, terrible. Holy Words... We really should reform the whole "wargame" idea that goes around in this site... Chaos in the Old World, Battle of Westeros, Smallworld and Stronghold are NOT Wargames. Perhaps Battle of Westeros but I have strong doubts... The nominees should be screened much more accurately.
