I was recently trying to decide what to do with some wooden blocks I found when I thought of BFG. I no longer have the time/ability to paint well (if I ever did have the ability...) and that inability with a lightness in my wallet pushed me in this direction:

I used the pdf's from GW's website to extract the images of the ships, and through trial and error I have been able to make the Imperial and Chaos ships to a standardized size that can fit on the dominos and blocks with sticker paper.

Now my problem is whether or not I should 'resize' the game (ie. change weapon ranges, barrage marker sizes) to fit the much smaller scales of the new 'minis'. Do you think this is necessary, or beneficial in anyway?

All ships are actually on the point of the stand, so if you put a dot on the domino you can say where it is.

For the blasts you could put them in a circle-ish form around the domino to simulate the round base.

But, if you truly want to play on your card table, then you could cut all ranges and movement in half?

Thanks Moves,

I completely forgot about measuring to the flight "stick". That should be an easy fix. Man that woulda sucked if I would have printed out all the ships without the dots lol.

So I'm painting the colored pips on a new set of dominos to get them ready for stickers.

Stuff is drying, and although the color is showing through I'm hoping that the sticker paper will make the pips invisible.

Two of the 'old' ships that have the color of the pips showing through.

LOL...GAH!

So I was just about to hit the print button on 4 pages of sticker paper for my traitor ships when I noticed that all the stickers are 1/8" to big...I made them all the exact size of the pieces they will be covering and as the dominos have rounded edges the stickers would 'pop' out and eventually come loose...

I'm using Visio for the ease of making each 'ship' a stencil, but as I added the dots as an additional layer...it won't scale if I try and resize the individual stencils as their are now two layers...

Now I need to start again nearly from scratch...hopefully by tommorow I'll be done...again.

Got all the ships finished with targeting 'diamonds' on them. Now I just need to add the laminate, cut them out, and apply them to the dominos.

Looks good... BGG may not allow the file to be uploaded because of GW rules but would you share it with others?

I don't have Visio but if you could export it to an image format or even PDF that would be great.

I won't be uploading (or attempting to upload) these files onto BGG. Not only would it be a headache for the mods here and against their policy, but I'd hate to stir up the GW beehive of GW trolls and fanboi's.

That being said if anyone wants to geekmail me with their thoughts or concerns...

They look awesome. I would still play on a large table as I think the effect of playing on a large table with those counters/tiles for ships would be cool. Shortening the ranges makes measurement too much of a hassle and BFG is often about setting yourself up to be in the perfect arc at the right distance.

Those are some good points and thanks for bringing them up. I'm very interested in playing the first game at 'full scale' to see if it is indeed necessary or not. I have a 4' x 8' play table so a suitable play area is not the issue. My only real 'concern' would be would the game 'look right' with 2" battleships moving 20cm a turn or not...

I hate to admit it but when miniature games are really off it does drive me nuts...don't get me started on Flames of War where on a 4' x 8' table my 88's are 400 feet (at 1/100th scale) from my opponents 105's...)

Very nicely done Eagles.

Are you going to use the stock ordinance or make those as well? *Or do you dislike ordinance?

Thanks,

I don't mind ordinance and have been looking at making some custom, but the torpedo's picket fence-like shape has me stumped. Should I do them on a domino? It kinda seems like they'd be too thick...I dunno.

I want to 'redo' everything, as its proving to be just way too much fun, but we'll see if I have the skill...lol

The Imperials are done and stickered up. Any interest in the pics? Their basically identical to the others on here...but the 'good guys' lol.

I ended up just using the ordinance (imperial/traitor fighters) from warp rift magazine. I only had one piece of sticker paper left and I forgot to convert them to black and white...so their in color. Which I'm not to happy with.

Anyways, so now I've started doing all of the merchant ships I can find. After that I dunno what fleet I will do. I really like the look of the Tau, but I might try the Orks.

Cool, I'm gonna take the pics now, and start on the Orks. I was worried about doing the Orks because I couldn't find any pics of Hulks or Roks. Luckily I found the pics in the Warp Storm supplement. I'll mess with them tonight, after I get more sticker paper and laminate...and black ink lol.
