I have a simple question about struggle for survival...I'm missing something with the rules and it doesn't matter how many times i read it, i still can't figure it out.
How does the attacker 'eat' when there is 'insufficient' food to begin with? I thought the only way you can eat is if there is one of each colored food cube...the only way to use 'struggle for survival' is if there is insufficient food cubes. What am i missing?!
Struggle for survival reads: In Phase 1, if there is insufficient food for an amoeba, and it would otherwise starve, it may attempt to attack another amoeba in the same space. The attack costs 1 BP, and is always successful, unless the other amoeba possesses DEFENSE, ESCAPE, or ARMOR. If the attack is successful, the other amoeba is removed from board. The attacker eats but does not excrete as normal. Instead, one Foodstuff cube of each color is placed in that space. You can only attack once per amoeba before you starve. You may attack one of your own amoeba!

It just means that you can't attack another amoeba if there are already enough cubes in the square to eat. Otherwise, you attempt to eat another amoeba and there is a different kind of poop.
Basically, if there isn't enough food in the square, you eat another amoeba and excrete one of each color, rather than two of your own.
