I'm waiting on my copy to come in, but it was posted in another forum what the new roles do and i had a question on the carpenter. it was listed in that forum as
1) carpenter - sell any or all lumber at double the current price.
where does this apply? i'm assuming in the shops though i dont' want to guess at it.

Definitely a legit question. I can see how the card is a bit nebulous on its' use as written.
It should indeed specify that you can only do this when the Shops are activated. Hence you or another player must visit the Shops Area in order for you to opt to sell any or all of your lumber at double the current price. And yes, the price peg for lumber would go up one for each cube that you sell. And yes, if you choose to sell Lumber, then you cannot sell anything else at the Shops. (the only exception would be in the two-player version and then you would need to have the Porter character as well.)
So perhaps the card should better read as follows: May choose to sell any or all lumber (instead of the normal 5 resources) at double the current price when the Shops are activated. Adjust Lumber prices up 1 for each cube sold.
hope that helps clarify it!

thanks frank,
i figured that was how it worked but wanted clarification.
I ordered mine expansion last week and can't wait to get it. I really enjoy this game even if it doesn't hit the table much. in my last two games i got obliterated one game and the previous game i got cut so far open that it hurt (14-15 point loss) and i still can't get enough. great game

I still don't understand this. Can you clarify some more? Can't you already sell as much as you want? I don't see where the bonus is.
Does it mean that if the lumber price is at 40, you would normally sell each one and get 80, but you would now be able to get 160 for each one you sell?

the only place you can sell lumber is the mercado. and that's on a 1 cube a turn (or 2 with trader). you can't sell lumber in the shops, but with the carpenter you can sell wood in the shops like it were a regular resouce. though there are no order restrictions.
I did get my copy yesterday and i'm looking to have it hit the table this weekend. another question is the Minstel he can change orders once per round. the question is what is the definition of a round in this game. that's very important since there are group areas and you can get several actions per turn. or does turn = round. My definition of a turn for this game is marked by the movement of the gondola

There are 16 rounds per game, 4 Bidding rounds and 12 Commerce rounds, which equate to the moves of the Gondola. A player can have multiple 'turns' in the same round due to shared spaces being activated by other players. (Technically, a player can have anywhere from 1 to 5 'turns' per round in a 5 player game, depending on how many Shared spaces are activated.)
So the player with the Minstrel can do this action only once per round, and only when it is his turn (either when the space he is on is activated or when he is taking his turn on a shared action space). In total, he can do the Minstrel's action only three times while he has the Minstrel before the next Bid round.
