If I play a card that makes me land on a tile just after a water tile what exactly should happen with regards to taking a tile?
I played my 1st game as you do not get a tile as taking water tiles didn't make any sense, but it got me thinking that maybe you get to take the tile before the water tile(s).

Any time you place your piece on a tile, you pick up the first available tile behind you. So you would pick up the first, top-most tile on the other end of the water you just crossed.

To be clear:

5 2 P1 W P2

This sequence of tiles is a 5, a 2, Player 1's piece, water, and the space where Player 2 has now arrived. Player 2 looks behind, on the path that he has just traveled, and sees that the first topmost open space is the 2. Player 2 takes the 2 tile.

I hope that helps!
