My main game partner is my wife and so we mainly play 2 player games. The main things that I look for when getting something for us is that its fun, scales well to 2 players, fast and good components.

We were introduced to Sushizock during our board game group. I was instantly attracted to it since it seemed a little obscure and strange.

Gameplay: Sushizock has a yatzee-ish mechanic. Players roll 5 die, trying to roll certain combinations so they can pull scoring tiles. There are two rows of sushi, good and bad. Good is positive points and bad is negative. The number of the corresponding symbols you roll is the postion of the row that you take the tile (roll 2 good sushis, you take the second one in). But the game adds two nice little rules that can mess things up a little bit. First is that you need at least the same amount of bad tiles as you have good tiles, otherwise you toss out some of your good ones. This forces you to balance your rolls. Also is a 'push your luck' aspect where you can overshoot a high scoring tile and instead grab a lower scoring one or even an unwanted negative tile.

Components: The game has amazing components. The dice are solid wood and absolutely beautiful. They're a little light for my taste, but still love them. The tiles are a nice sturdy plastic, like dominoes. Everything is extremely easy to recognize. The game sets up and tears down very fast.

Good for 2-Players: We love this as a two player game. The beginning of the games are usually fairly cautious as we try to roll for the high points and keep things balanced. Somewhere towards the end though, we switch gears and start stealing more and just being more aggressive overall. The player interaction ebbs and flows throughout the game.

Time: This is a nice quick game. With just the two of us, we can play in about 110-15 minutes. When this hits the table, we usually play 2 or 3 rounds of it. If a lot of stealing happens, it can go a little long, but a few bad dice rolls and is all it takes for it to end quickly after that.

I give Sushizock im Gockelwok . Its a nice, light dice rolling game. There's not a whole lot of strategy besides choosing when to be bold and when to be cautious. We've had huge success teaching it to both of our parents though, which just makes it all the better.
