Apologies if similar has been posted elsewhere on this forum: Last night was my first experience with _Pass the Pigs_, definitely a better game than I expected.
One issue with the rules is that it's not super clear when exactly the game ends. We assumed most people play that it ends immediately when someone reaches 100 points. This is kind of lame, however, as it puts a lot of emphasis on the turn order after someone establishes a lead.
What we played instead is that after someone finishes a turn with over 100 points total, everyone else gets one additional turn, and the player with the highest total at the end wins. As the first one to hit 100 points, you then have an important decision to make: Do you stop, safely over 100 points, or do you press your luck a bit to ensure the victory? For example, if you are sitting with a potential 103 points but I have 85, you might definitely want to stretch it a little bit out of fear that I'll overcome you on my turn. Of course, if you Pig Out or similar and record no points this turn, then we haven't hit the end phase and the game continues.
We found that this simple addition added a good bit of drama and slightly more thinking to the game.

For what is a fast and fun pub game, won't this just make each game longer, not only because of the extra round but where people do push their luck and then bust after exceeding 100?
If turn order was an issue, it still is with this variant because after 100 is reached, the last player in the round just has to roll until he either wins or busts and therefore has a measurable advantage. Unless you have a significantlead, it would be foolish to declare over 100 because everyone else will then roll until they exceed your score or bust.
I must have played this 100's of times and each game in a session we just rotated the start player. However I've never noticed a correlation between start position and winner. There again, thats because I was probably too drunk to notice or care.
