For the character cards I use the Mayday Premium sleeves that fit 7 Wonders sized cards. They are the right height though unfortunately wider than one would like.
They DO protect the character cards though and functionally would only hinder shuffling (thankfully there is no need to shuffle the character cards). They get the job done.
