The components are very sturdy. I think the problem with young children would be more one of losing the components than one of damaging them. The game play degrades fast with missing components. Also, components are small, especially the metal balls that attach to thé pawn, and if there are children 3 or younger around, this should be closely watched.

I'll second the concerns being more about lost components rather than breakage.

The only component I'm concerned about breaking is the "under" board, which is a lattice work piece with large holes to allow the balls to fall through, and longer strips excised to allow for the walls to slip in and out of the board.

This is why I suggested that you teach the children to only insert and remove walls with this board removed from the game and placed flat on the table top.

This evening, my nephews came over and the youngest asked to play the game by name. So I'm pretty sure we've picked out his Christmas gift.

Agreed on all counts. My daughter Louisa age 6 loves the game but we have already managed (in just a few weeks) to lose the circular "feather" token. They are very small!
