When a Mosquito (table level) is next to a Beetle-covered tile (hence Beetle is on top of that tile) then the Mosquito may copy the movement from the top-most Beetle tile (even though it is not on the same level) but not the movement from the covered tile, yes?

Correct. Also, if a mosquito moves like a beetle on top of the hive then it remains a beetle until it comes down.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Per the FAQ, it appears that top-most tiles determine the "color" of that space in the hive. Therefore if a Beetle covers up an opponent piece, and there isn't any other opponent piece next to that now-covered piece, then the owner of the Beetle on a subsequent tile may place a new tile next to that Beetle-covered tile (including if that covered tile is a Queen) even though that newly-placed tile is "next" to an opponent tile, yes?

You are correct. If your opponent allows you to get a beetle on top of their queen, it's usually very bad news for them!

One more additional comment. When a Mosquito is atop the hive and acting like a Beetle, it is still a Mosquito. Another Mosquito on ground level cannot get a Beetle's ability from a Mosquito atop the hive, only from a real Beetle.
