Hi folks,
just started playing this interesting game recently, and just want to confirm some dying rules:
Amoeba gets 2/3 points of damage and dies => produces 2 cubes of each colour
Amoeba gets killed by an Aggressive blow => produces 2 cubes of each colour (not eating so no pooping)
Amoeba gets killed by Struggle for Survival => produces 1 cube of each colour (presumably starving aggressor already ate the second cube of each colour) (no extra cubes from pooping either)
Amoeba gets killed by Struggle for Survival and tried to use Defense but failed => no cubes produced (no extra cubes from pooping either)
Amoeba gets killed by Struggle for Survival and did not use Defense (chose not to, or couldn't afford it) => produces 1 cube of each colour (no extra cubes from pooping either)
I guess amoeba that don't put up a fight are more nutritious than ones that do?! That rule doesn't appear in the older game Ursuppe.

I recently emailed Zman on this. I think their change to the reference sheet is a misinterpretation of a Doris & Frank FAQ found here http://doris-frank.de/UrsuppeFAQ.html question 10 relates to this but applies to the defender winning...
I will report back when Zman responds.

I cannot get this. Why?

I think you're agreeing with us? Is that right?
We're saying that going with the theme, the results of a failed Defense should be the same as if they didn't have Defense in the first place.
But there may be some good reason I haven't heard yet.

OK, I'll try to explain clear .
First, I don't see where in the rules it is said that a failed Defense does not produce cubes. This was my original enquiry.
Second. If this actually right, and a failed Defense is really NOT producing cubes, I would think this to be very strange. If an amoeba tries to Defense, and fails, it just would die and produce cubes as normal. Why should it be in any other way?
I have the Ursuppe german edition, but the rules I'm using are in english most probably downloaded from Z-Man (rules look like original real rules, not any unofficial translation), and from the explanation of the genes I cannot see where it says that failed Defense would not produce any cube.
EDIT: Just checked in Z-Man and it is clearly stated in the gene explanation I have just read. I have to check with the ones at home... EDIT: Probably I have never used Defense! Yes, in my rules it says explicitly that a failed Defense is not producing cubes.
Thanks!

So ... after all those edits ... I think we're now back on the same page? ;-)
If you look in the "Files" section on the BGG page for Primordial Soup, there are electronic versions of the rules sheets for both PS and Ursuppe, with also official and unofficial clarification sheets. There's also the link campgamer posted above, and I think he's probably right that Zman misunderstood that rule.

Still thinking about it, maybe this IS the point. If the amoeba starts fighting, it loses quite a lot of energy, and a "deliciously big fat amoeba" would turn quite fast into a skinny one . Then, eating this thin amoeba produces no residues... Just a possibility.

Ok. Completely off topic, but first thing that came to mind when I saw the subject was to answer:
We hold a wake and then down the toilet he goes.
