I am looking to give as a gift to a friend. I previously gave them Chateau de Roquefort and the kids - 5 and 7 years old loved it.
Anyone have both Chateua de Roquefort and this and can talk about how they compare and which they kids love better and why.

Other than mice and cheese, the games don't have much in common, so I think Viva Topo is a good bet for a gift!
Viva Topo is pretty much a push-your-luck game, where you roll a die and move one of your mice. On some rolls, the cat will move, and if it ever catches up with one of your mice, the cat eats it. The whole game is about deciding when to duck out with a mouse to grab some cheese, or when to push your luck and continue with the mouse to get even better cheese!

No more confusing me for tickmanfan. I swear I got more thumbs when I was him!
The $wingin' Utter$ are a kickass punk band from California. Look em up.

I agree. Both are great games. Just depends on preference. I personally find Viva Topo! to be better of the two games for toddlers. The luck of the die roll is a pretty good equalizer so even kids playing with adults have a shot at winning, which helps give them the warm fuzzy feeling of accomplishment. Chateau Roquefort is fun, but some peoples' memory just sucks and about the only thing you can do to mitigate that is handicap the better players by increasing the amount of cheese pairs they need to win.

Yes, I really am that awesome.

If you do want to branch out from mice and cheese (although I agree, VT is quite different from CR) - maybe try Giro Galoppo? Same great company, same great quality of components, equally great gameplay, but horse racing instead of mice.
