Called Hick Hack in Europe.
Following a break for munchies (Panettone) we set about playing a game of Hick Hack.
This is a fun little game where feed (in the form of small wooden cubes) is distributed each turn to 6 different types of poultry, represented by square cards in the centre of the table. The players then decide by the placement of one of their 5 cards which poultry type they want to visit.
Each player is dealt 5 cards which randomly represent the various types of poultry, each with a number (either 3 to 6 or -2) or foxes interested in the specific types of poultry (each with a number from 4 to 6) . Each player decides which poultry type they intend to visit by placing one card (either fox or poultry) face down in front of them. Once revealed:
1. Players who have placed cards with the same type of poultry typically fight over who gets the feed (Green cubes are worth 1 point at the end of the game whereas Blue feed is worth 2 and Yellow 3) that is on the relevant card in the centre of the table, although they can negotiate the division of spoils. As the game progresses not all the feed gets eaten each turn and so there can be a build up of feed. This obviously attracts the attention of other players poultry as well as those damned foxes described in more detail below.
When the poultry fight it consist of rolling a dice and adding the number on your birds card to that of the dice with the highest score winning. If your bird had a -2 then you get a piece of Green feed before the other birds fight over the remaining feed.
2. Players who placed cards with foxes eat (ergo they get to keep the poultry cards which are then counted towards their points total at the end of the game) the specific poultry referenced on the foxes card, if any turned up to feed or rue the fact that they went after the wrong type of poultry (on three occasions my foxes went hungry whilst on three separate occasions Malcolm sat chuckling away as his foxes munched my poultry - oh the injustice).
If more than one fox turns up then their fight is resolved in the same way as described for the poultry.
Any player who's bird had a -2 on the card gets one Green feed before they are then gobbled up by the fox. The fox gets the poultry card with the -2 towards their overall score at the end of the game.
So the game consist of birds eating feed and foxes eating birds and the winner being the player who has managed to use his cards to eat the most meat and vegetable!
This was another game picked up at Essen (for a mere for a mere 7 Euros) which like Straw and Saboteur will, I am sure, become a regular at our games evenings. It is very light but has that mischievous element that my group love.
