...and had the license for this title. This seems like a natural match for the iPod/iPhone market. An A.I> would be fairly easy to program, and some nice transitional material and music, colorize the original artwork. I could even see additional character packs being released as DLC. If this had the capacity for online play through a service, similar to the way Carcassonne or Samurai handle it, and additionally play vial wi-fi and/or Bluetooth... This could be epic! What would be really wonderful would be to play the game as it was originally intended, with characters gaining skill over time, and climbing up an online leaderboard, and characters experiencing permadeath upon losing, so that the leaderboard truly reflects the current best fighters.
Now, if only I could actually program that...

As well as the Ace of Aces: Handy Rotary Series series. Extraordinarily easy to make into apps (I suspect). Imagine you and your buddy secretly fighting against each other during that next boring board meeting?

Did it in BASIC once long long ago (like late 80s-mid-90s long long ago...) Just for one book as a test pitting it against itself to see if it would track right.
The convolutions of the pages can be the trick here and I was not using one of the later more complex characters that came out.
This would also be interesting to see as a Flash game.

Don't forget all the others!
Battletech set Dinosaur Set X wing TIE fighter duel Lightsaber Duel WWII Jet Combat
They really made a lot of classic stuff with this system.
I actually find it odd that I don't see a lot of light turn based games, given how the controls are not that good for action arcade games.
